Mad Cow Theatre announces the cast of Top Girls, opening March 29, 2019. Women and power are back on the table in Caryl Churchill's feminist feast.

Caryl Churchill's Top Girls, is a famously feminist work about the career-driven Marlene and her relationships with the people in her life. For many, Churchill is the finest playwright in the world. A prolific writer, her work is dynamic and varied. Churchill's dazzling, contemporary classic, is most famous for its opening scene, featuring the main character attending a dinner party, accompanied by several women from history and folklore. First performed in 1982, the play strikes a chord today, in a world where women are still suffering due to gender inequality, albeit with exciting changes on the horizon.

Marlene has just earned a big promotion in a London employment agency. She and a restaurant full of her dinner guests celebrate the virtues and bemoan the sacrifices required of being "top girls" in a man's world. In the episodes that follow, all of the women in her life - co-workers, relatives, clients - grapple with their ambitions and clash with each other. "Very funny and provocative.... A mind lifting experience." N.Y. Post

"Top Girls is a masterpiece", says Mitzi Maxwell, Mad Cow Theatre's executive director. "This play explodes with the stories of women everywhere. We couldn't be doing this extraordinary play at a better time as we watch women around the globe step forward to make a better world for their families and themselves."

Top Girls' cast of daring women is led by Cynthia Beckert* (Rapture, Blister, Burn, Grounded, The Tale of the Allergist's Wife) as Marlene, alongside Allison Piehl (It Was a Very Good Yule: 1950s Edition, It Was a Very Good Year: 1970/1950) as Dull Greta/Angie, Courtney Bahr (The Little Foxes) as Griselda/Nell/Jeanine, Karel K. Wright* (Silent Sky, 1776, Collected Stories) as Isabella/Joyce, and Sara Oliva* (A View From the Bridge, My Name is Asher Lev) as Pope Joan/Louise. We're also welcoming two newcomers: Amanda Decker as Lady Nijo/Win and Ashleigh Gardner as Waitress/Kit/Shona are both making their Mad Cow debut.

Tony Simotes** (Hand to God, The Royal Family, The Little Foxes) is directing and Amy Hadley (1776, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Hand to God) is the lighting designer. Eric Craft (A View From the Bridge, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, The Brothers Size) is set designer and Dwayne Broadnax joins the team as costume designer (Gloria, Bad Jews). Sound design by Nicole Colangelo (Hand to God) with stage management by Katie Rinaldi (Hand to God, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, The Royal Family).
