Women Designers Of Boundless Theatre Company Among Recipients Of The 2019 Edith Lutyens And Norman Bel Geddes Design Enhancement Fund Grant

On January 10th, A.R.T./NY named Boundless Theatre Company (María-Cristina Fusté, Executive Artistic Director) one of the 2019 recipients of the Edith Lutyens and Norman Bel Geddes Design Enhancement Fund Grant! This grant was awarded to enhance the design of Boundless' upcoming production of Fur by Migdalia Cruz, directed by Elena Araoz. Three women designers of color - costume designer Sarita Fellows, scenic designer Regina García, and lighting designer María-Cristina Fusté - will use the grant funding to more fully realize their artistic vision for the production.

Fur, Cruz's provocative tragi-comedy, reframes classic folktale tropes in a visceral, contemporary store. Fellows, García and Fusté intend to leverage those qualities in their design, creating a jarring atmosphere that juxtaposes stark psychological deprivation with flashes of indulgent, intimate visual detail. Regina García (Scenic Designer): An Illinois-based designer, Regina has had long standing relationships with the St. Louis Black Rep, The Cherry Lane Theatre and renowned Latino theaters including Repertorio Español, the Puerto Rican Traveling Theater, INTAR, and Pregones Theater. Regina is a Fellow of the NEA/TCG Career Development Program for Designers and the Princess Grace Awards, USA. She is a company member with Rivendell Theatre Company and Teatro Vista, in Chicago, and a Regional Associate Member of the League of Professional Theatre Women. Recent completed projects: TimeLine Theatre, GALA Hispanic Theatre (Helen Hayes Nomination), Arizona Theatre Company; with upcoming projects next season at Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Victory Gardens Theatre, Milwaukee Rep and Steppenwolf Theatre. Sarita Fellows (Resident Costume Designer): Born in Freetown Sierra Leone, Sarita Fellows grew up in Sudan, Zimbabwe, Uganda, England and the US. Broadway: Associate costume designer to Tony Award designer Susan Hilferty at Master Harold and the Boys, Turn Me Loose, and Familiar. María-Cristina Fusté (Lighting Designer): Ms. Fusté has a career in lighting design with credits in New York, her native Puerto Rico, major cities in the U.S., Bolivia, Colombia, México, and the Dominican Republic. She is also the founder and Executive Artistic Director of Boundless Theatre Company.
