Tony Goldwyn, Kyra Sedgwick & Joe Morton Headline Reading of IN THEIR OWN WORDS

Opening Act, an innovative nonprofit providing free after-school theater programming to New York City's most under-served public high schools, is thrilled to announce today that Tony Goldwyn, Kyra Sedgwick and Joe Morton will headline its 13th Annual Benefit Play Reading, IN THEIR OWN WORDS on Tuesday April 2 at New World Stages in New York.

Under the direction of Kamilah Forbes (Executive Producer, The Apollo; Co-Founder of HiARTS and Hip-Hop Theater Festival), IN THEIR OWN WORDS will exclusively feature original works written by Opening Act students and alumni for the first time ever. The evening will also include a red carpet, reception, dinner and raffle featuring prestigious prizes such as tickets to Aaron Sorkin's To Kill A Mockingbird on Broadway, the US Open tennis tournament in September and four VIP luxury box seats to a matchup between the Minnesota Twins and New York Yankees in the Bronx.

Best known for her Emmy-winning role on TNT's The Closer, Kyra Sedgwick can currently be seen in theaters alongside Bill Skarsgård in the film Villains. Fellow Emmy winner Joe Morton (ABC's Scandal) currently stars in the hit new CBS drama, God Friended Me. Morton's Scandal co-star Tony Goldwyn appears alongside Bryan Cranston in the critically-acclaimed Broadway production of Network through June 8th.

For almost 20 years, Opening Act has provided free after-school theater programming to New York City's most under-served public high schools, with past Play Reading actors including Uzo Aduba, Edie Falco, Joshua Jackson, Bernadette Peters, Cynthia Nixon, Aja Naomi King, Loretta Devine, Auli'i Cravalho, Beau Bridges, Dulé Hill, Anthony Ramos and more.

Additional talent names for this year's 13th annual event will be announced.

"What's so special about this event is the opportunity to see our incredibly powerful students on stage alongside amazing talent like Kyra, Joe, and Tony. We get to hear directly from our city's young people about issues that impact all of us such as gender disparity and school safety. It's going to be a magical night," said Suzy Myers Jackson, Executive Director of Opening Act.
