Tabula RaSa Partners With LATEA Theater

Celebrating its fifth-year anniversary, Tabula RaSa will hold a three-week artistic residency with a series of cultural activities in English and Spanish. LATEA Theater at Clemente Soto Vélez Cultural Center will also host the company's world premiere of Tabula RaSa's latest creation: In The Eye of The Needle. In addition, Tabula RaSa will hold 21 days of workshops, conferences and theater discussions, some of which are free of charge.

The world premiere of In The Eye of The Needle, the most recent work by Tabula RaSa NYC Theater, will take place at LATEA beginning Thursday, May 24th. A collective creation, written and directed by Ramiro Antonio Sandoval. In co-production with LATEA Theater, this international production is a contemporary piece that reflects on today's social behavior and culture in an unconventional tragicomic approach.
The show's three-week engagement plays through Sunday, June 10. Press night is Thursday, May 24th; opening night Friday, May 25th at 8 p.m. Tickets are now on sale

The roster of workshops running from Monday, May 21st, will include:

Acting and movement workshops:

  • The Actor and the Dramatic Space, a workshop for actors exploring the potential of the creative relationship between the body and theater space through Neutral Mask exercises

  • Fun, Games and Theater. Intro to Theater for Non Actors. Using theater games, the participants will learn acting skills and create a short theater presentation

  • Collective Creation. Discover the power of playwriting from a collective experience. Storytelling, composition and presentation

  • Somatic Embodiment: Body Awareness and Dynamic Embodiment. Feldenkrais- based workshop for actors

  • The Body in Power: Feldenkrais-based physical exploration and contact improvisation practices for dancers, scenic artist and performers

    Conferences:

  • Artistic director Ramiro Antonio Sandoval and the Theatre For Peace Project will present the conference Art in the Times of Conflict. The building of a collective poetic memory in the Colombian peace process. Open to the public

  • Q&A with The Director. An informal gathering and conversation with director Sandoval, about the show and Tabula RaSa's methodologies. An after-show activityopen to the public

    Gala:

  • Celebrating the role of art in world peace. After show V.I.P. Cocktail with the cast. A special evening for fans, friends and sponsors. Fundraising event. Tickets on sale at: https://www.teatrolatea.org/ticket-sale/

    Showcase:

• The participants in the workshops will share their work at a free and open to the publicsession

Photo Exhibit:

• A memoir of the recent works by Tabula RaSa NYC Theater and Performance Lab
