The Hub Theatre, specializing in new plays that highlight our common humanity, is excited to present the regional premiere of The Burn by playwright Philip Dawkins, directed by The Hub's Artistic Director, Matt Bassett. The Burn, the first full production in The Hub's 11th season, will run from April 26 - May 11, 2019 on the stage of NextStop Theatre in Herndon. The Hub is pleased to welcome back playwright Philip Dawkins, whose previous scripts under Bassett's direction - Failure: A Love Story and The Happiest Place on Earth - were audience favorites that brought The Hub six Helen Hayes Award nominations. The Hub's production of Happiest was recently remounted at Hub Founding Artistic Director Helen R. Murray's new artistic home, the Aurora Fox in Colorado.

The Burn is a contemporary examination of The Crucible using social media as its lens. Mercedes is an outsider. Tara makes sure she knows it. When a high school production of The Crucible forces them together, tensions escalate into acts of bullying - both online and IRL. This area-premiere play explores what happens to a teacher and his students when a classroom conflict turns into an online witch-hunt.

A talented cast of local performers will each make their official Hub Theatre debut, including: Gabby Wolfe, Chloe Mikala, Christina Day, Rae Venna and Elliott Kashner. The design team features a number of returning Hub collaborators, including Elizabeth Zuck as set designer (Failure: A Love Story; The Typographer's Dream; in a word; Secrets of the Universe), Catherine Girardi as lighting designer (Failure: A Love Story; The Typographer's Dream; in a word), Reid May as sound designer (in a word; The Happiest Place on Earth), Amy Kellett as props designer (Peekaboo; Secrets of the Universe) and Hub newcomer Grace Mitchell as costume designer. The Burn is the fifth play Matt Bassett has directed for the company, and the first one since stepping into the role of Producing Artistic Director.
