SPRING AWAKENING to Be Presented at West Potomac High School

Following an exciting run of the hit musicals Dogfight and Jesus Christ Superstar and the powerful plays A Few Good Men and DNA, Art that Matters 2: Human Struggle will continue to bring important issues and powerful stories to the forefront of the community. Spring Awakening, a powerful rock musical based on the play by Frank Wedekind, opens in the Kogelman Theatre on May 25th. Beyond The Page Theatre Company is excited to continue the legacy of American Idiot and bring the community meaningful and impactful theatre.

Spring Awakening centers around the lives of 19th century German teenagers that struggle to find themselves amidst sexual frustration, suicide, and abuse from their parents/teachers. The music, composed by Duncan Sheik with lyrics by Steven Sater, brings an electric energy to a tragic tale based on the play written by Frank Wedekind. Spring Awakening has not been performed in its entirety by many high schools because of the controversial subject matter and explicit lyrics, but the resonant story gives a unique and empowering voice to teenagers.
