The Coterie and Unicorn Theatre Combine
Adult Auditions for Their 2019–2020 Seasons

WHAT: The Coterie Theatre and Unicorn Theatre will hold combined auditions for professional adult actors (18 years of age and older) - Equity and non-Equity - for their respective 2019-2020 seasons.

WHEN:

  • May 13, May 17 – Reserved for Equity appointments made by phone April 8-12.
  • May 13, May 17 – Actors with credits at The Coterie OR Unicorn (but not both) OR another Equity theater
  • April 30, May 1 – Actors with no credits at The Coterie, the Unicorn, or another Equity theater
  • Auditions are by appointment only.


WHERE: Unicorn Theatre, 3828 Main Street, Kansas City, Missouri

CONTACT: Equity actors may schedule an audition for May 13 or May 17, by calling 816-474-4241, April 8-12, 10:00am-4:00pm (CT). All other dates to be scheduled online. Starting April 12, at 5:00pm (CT), professional actors may schedule an individual audition online at

OTHER: Actors will be asked to perform two contrasting contemporary monologues (no Shakespeare), two minutes each; no classical material. Singing auditions will occur only if you are called back. Actors must bring two head shots and two resumes.

The Coterie’s 2019-2020 season includes:

  • Rise Up, directed by Jeff Church.
  • A Charlie Brown Christmas (musical), directed by Bill Christie.
  • The White Rose: We Defied Hitler, directed by Jeff Church.
  • PUFFS or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic, directed by Amanda Kibler.
  • Pete the Cat (musical), directed by Heidi Van.
  • Disney's The Little Mermaid (musical), directed by Ernie Nolan.
  • Billy Elliot the Musical (musical) [co-produced with The J at the White Theatre], directed by Jerry Jay Cranford.
  • Dramatic Health Education Project: STDs/HIV (local tour), educational local tour throughout the school year, directed by Michael Smith & Matt Leonard.

Roles to be cast will be both AEA and non-AEA. (except Dramatic Health Education Project: STDs/HIV)

The Unicorn’s 2019-2020 season includes:

  • Who’s Your Baghdaddy, or How I Started the Iraq War (A Musical), music and book by Marshall Pailet, lyrics and book by A.D. Penedo.
  • A Doll’s House: Part II by Lucas Hnath.
  • Bernhardt/Hamlet by Theresa Rebeck.
  • A World Premier T.B.A.
  • American Son by Christopher Demos-Brown.
  • The Lifespan of a Fact by Jeremy Karekan, David Murrell, and Gordon Farrell, based on the book by John D'Agata and Jim Fingal.
  • Admissions by Josh Harmon.

Roles for AEA in all shows and some non-AEA roles available.

There will be no alternate audition times.
