Hill Country Community Theatre announces open auditions for Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “STATE FAIR”

The Hill Country Community Theatre announces auditions for the final show of their 2017-18 season, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “State Fair”. Auditions are Monday, May 14 and Tuesday, May 15 at 7:00 PM at the theatre, 4003 W FM 2147, Cottonwood Shores, TX 78657. The show will be directed by Les Young who will also be the musical director.

The Frake family leaves behind the routine of the farm for three days of adventure at the annual Iowa State Fair. Mom and Pop have their hearts set on blue ribbons while their daughter and son find romance and heartbreak on the midway. “State Fair” is the kind of entertainment only Rodgers and Hammerstein could deliver.

Principal Roles:

  • Abel Frake (male 35-65) Proud and hard-working farmer; gruff yet caring; yearns for his hog, Blue Boy, to earn blue ribbon at state fair so he can win a bet with his friend Dave.
  • Melissa Frake (female 35-55) modest, hard-working, family-oriented farm wife; finds joy in accomplishments of her family, unaccustomed to receiving accolades herself.
  • Margy Frake (female 16-25) Recent high-school graduate, seeking to find herself and make her way in the world; caught between two love interests--solid, reliable Harry and the more worldly and exciting Pat.
  • Wayne Frake (male 18-30) Young farmer, carrying on in father's footsteps; confused when his girlfriend Eleanor decides to leave country for college, flattered when sophisticated Emily showers attention on him.
  • Harry (male 18-30) Extremely earnest young farmer, absolutely devoted to Margy; a role with comical attributes, but also sincere in love for Margy and farming community.
  • Emily Arden (female 18-30) Dreams of performing on Broadway and single-mindedly focused on making that dream happen; overcame difficult past; takes interest in Wayne--wants to assure him he can dream, too.

Supporting roles:

  • Chorus/Ensemble (males and females all ages) Fairgoers, barkers, vendors and judges.
