ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST - The Portland Players

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
January 25 - February 10, 2019

By Dale Wasserman
Based on the novel by Ken Kesey

Directed by: Cullen Burke
Assistant Directed by: Megan Bremermann

AUDITIONS: Sunday, October 14th and Monday, October 15th at 6:30 PM

We are very excited to explore the potential of non-traditional casting for this production. Although, some characters should remain as the script originally intended, we are open to seeing you for whatever you may be interested in playing, so please do not limit yourself. Sides will be provided; no need to bring anything for a cold reading. We strongly encourage all attendees to bring a copy of your theatrical resume with you to audition.

REHEARSALS:

Our first table read will be on, or about, November 12th; more details to follow once the show is cast. Once we have our initial table read, the rehearsal schedule will continue as follows:

Monday: 6:30 – 9:30pm
Tuesday: 6:30 – 9:30pm
Wednesday: 6:30 – 9:30pm
Thursday: 6:30 – 9:30pm

We will do our best to accommodate every conflict listed, but please note that as we will be rehearsing around a major holiday, we will not accept anyone who has to miss more than three rehearsals. Thank you for your understanding.

PLOT SUMMARY:

When Randle Patrick McMurphy gets transferred for evaluation from a prison farm to a mental institution, he assumes it will be a less restrictive environment. But the disciplinarian Nurse Ratched runs the psychiatric ward with an iron fist, keeping her patients cowed through abuse, medication and sessions of electroconvulsive therapy. The battle of wills between the rebellious McMurphy and the inflexible Ratched soon affects all the ward's patients, resulting in one a most profound and heartbreaking conclusion, forever changing the lives of everyone involved.
