The Warner Stage Company will hold auditions for a Main Stage musical production of MAMMA MIA! on Sunday, February 3rd and Monday, February 4th, by appointment. The production is directed by Sharon W. Houk with assistant director Joe Guttadauro, music director Jim Luurtsema and choreographer Donna Bonasera. It will be presented at the Warner Theatre beginning May 4, 2019 for 5 performances.

All roles are open to audition. We are seeking a large ensemble cast for this production (see character breakdown below).

Those auditioning will be asked to sing up to one minute of a fully memorized of a pop/rock song from the 70s-today (not written for a musical) that is in the style of the show. The song should showcase the style and vocal range of the character for which you are auditioning. Songs from MAMMA MIA! are allowed. Additional vocalizing may also be a part of the audition to determine vocal range and harmonizing skills.

Auditioners should mark their selection with a highlighter. An accompanist will be provided. A cappella singing or recorded accompaniments will not be allowed.

Rehearsals will be held three nights per week on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7:00-10:00pm beginning Tuesday February 19th. We will do a read-thru of the show and hand out rehearsal materials on Monday, February 18th at 7:00pm. There will also be two rehearsals on Wednesday evenings – April 10th and 24th – because of Sunday conflicts.

Tech week rehearsals will be Sunday through Thursday, April 28 through May 2, 2019. We do ask that Friday, May 3, 2019 be held in case an additional tech week rehearsal is needed. The pickup rehearsal will be held on Thursday, May 9, 2019.

Please note: Audition appointment spaces are limited and filled on a first-come, first served basis.

Please have all conflicts for the rehearsal period available and note on your audition form. If you are unable to make the mandatory tech week rehearsals and/or midweek pickup rehearsal, we will be unable to cast you in this production.

ABOUT THE SHOW

On a small Greek island, Sophie dreams of a perfect wedding — one which includes her father giving her away. The problem? Sophie doesn't know who he is! Her mother Donna, the former lead singer of the 1970s pop group Donna and the Dynamos, refuses to talk about the past, so Sophie decides to take matters into her own hands. Sneaking a peek in her mother's old diaries, she discovers three possible fathers: Sam, Bill, and Harry. She secretly invites all three to the wedding, convinced that she'll know her father when she sees him. But when all three turn up, it may not be as clear as she thought! Told through the legendary music of ABBA, Mamma Mia! has become a worldwide sensation that has audiences everywhere dancing.

This smash-hit musical based on the songs of ABBA includes many of the pop super group's most famous hits such as Dancing Queen, Take a Chance on Me, Money, Money, Money and, of course, the title song, Mamma Mia. It has been seen by over 60 million people worldwide and has played in more than 40 countries in six continents.

About the Warner Theatre

Built by Warner Brothers Studios and opened in 1931 as a movie palace (1,772 seats), the Warner Theatre was described then as Connecticut's Most Beautiful Theatre. Damaged extensively in a flood, the Warner was slated for demolition in the early 1980s until the non-profit Northwest Connecticut Association for the Arts (NCAA) was founded and purchased the theatre. The Warner reopened as a performing arts center in 1983, and restoration of the main lobbies and auditorium was completed in November 2002. In 2008, the new 50,000 square foot Carole and Ray Neag Performing Arts Center, which houses a 300 seat studio theatre, 200 seat restaurant and expansive school for the arts, was completed. Today, the Warner is in operation year-round with more than 160 performances and 100,000 patrons passing through its doors each season. Over 10,000 students, pre K-adult, participate in arts education programs and classes. Together, with the support of the community, the Warner has raised close to $17 million to revitalize its facilities. NCAA's mission is to preserve the Warner Theatre as an historic landmark, enhance its reputation as a center of artistic excellence and a focal point of community involvement, and satisfy the diverse cultural needs of the region.
