Uplifting Adaptation LITTLE WOMEN Takes the Stage at New London Barn Playhouse

Following the wildly successful run of Camelot, the New London Barn Playhouse invites you to continue our journey through the 86th Summer Season with a trip to Civil War-era Concord for the earnest and uplifting musical masterpiece Little Women, running June 27 - July 8, 7:30PM with Wednesday matinee performances at 2:00PM and Sunday matinee performances at 5:00PM.

Louisa May Alcott's timeless tale is brought to soaring musical life in an energetic adaptation sure to warm the heart. The musical is seen through the eyes of the daring and tenacious Jo, as she relives her remarkable childhood. We meet the proud and impulsive Amy, the sweet and compassionate Beth, stalwart and devoted Meg, and, of course, Marmee, the emotional core of the family. As Jo journeys through her memories the family's story come to life, populating their cramped attic with tales of triumph, heartache, and the fantasies Jo wrote to entertain them.

Starring as Jo March is long time Barnie Talia Suskauer. Suskauer, a recent Penn State graduate, was most recently see at the Barn starring as Lilly in 2017's The Secret Garden, Princess Fiona in 2016's Shrek and The Mystery of Edwin Drood as a member of the 2015 Acting Intern Company. Joining her at the March family hearth as Marmee March is Barn newcomer Neva Rae Powers* who toured the Broadway production of Little Women and whose past credits include Barnum, Can-Can, Peter Pan and King of Hearts on Broadway as well as Mary Poppins at Northern Stage. Longtime Barn fans will be delighted to see Craig Macdonald* (The Crucible at Olney Theatre Centre, The Games Afoot at Ivoryton Playhouse) returning to the Barn stage as Mr. Laurence for this production, 40 years after when he first appeared at the Barn. Amy Agostino (Sweeney Todd, Noises Off) features as Aunt March/Mrs. Kirk, while frequent guest Elliott Cunningham (All Shook Up, Souvenir at the Barn) takes on the role of Professor Bhaer.

What of the fabulous 2018 Acting Intern Company? Little Women features Francesca Mancuso as Amy March, Sam Pearson as Beth March, Monica Owen as Meg March, Graham Hancock as Meg's paramour Mr. John Brooke and Andrew Nelin as their best friend Laurie Laurence. The rest of the Company is helping bring Jo's story to life, with Caroline Didelot as Clarissa, Gabriel Florentino as Rodrigo, Justine M. Goggin as Wild Rapids, Dean Marchant as Braxton, Jake Pedersen as The Moors, Alexander Robertson as Tree, Sara Sargent as Tree, Daniel Teixeira as Troll, and Carly Valancy as Hag.

The Barn is also excited to welcome back visionary director Chad Larabee++, who previously helmed On Golden Pond at the Barn and The Little Mermaid at Northern Stage. Larabee, whose direction is supported by original choreography from Barn newcomer Natalie Wisdom (performer: Broadway's Groundhog Day, Billy Elliot), a living, breathing set from Erik Diaz+, dazzling lighting from Cecilia Durbin+, exquisite costumes from Emily Kimball and inspiring musical direction from Robbie Cowan (2017's All Shook Up), will be bringing us a Little Women that is exhilarating, timeless, courageous, and tender.

Tickets start at $20 for adults and are available at nlbarn.org/tickets, by phone at 603-526-6710 or at the New London Barn Playhouse box office every day from 11AM - 6PM.
