Dramatists Guild Foundation Brings Traveling Masters to Rhode Island, Nevada, and New Hampshire

The Dramatists Guild Foundation (DGF) has announced that it will be bringing its Traveling Masters program to Rhode Island, Nevada, and New Hampshire for the very first time over the course of this month. The Traveling Masters is a nationwide education program providing master classes and events on the craft of writing. The program presents an incredible opportunity for students, aspiring professionals, and theater lovers to connect with the giants of American theater to be inspired, challenged, and empowered. Participants get the chance to interact with award-winning writers, allowing them to learn, ask questions, and develop their talents with input from true experts. Participants in each state gain insight into the real-life experiences of three different renowned playwrights.

Kathleen Cahill will be in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, on March 15-16. Cahill is a critically-acclaimed writer whose plays include EIN STEIN One Stone, Silent Dancer, Song of the Shirt by Nathan Grey, Henry, Louise and Henri, Harbur Gate, Course 86B in The Catalogue, and Charm. For her incredible work, Cahill has been honored with three Edgerton Foundation Awards, the Jane Chambers Playwriting Award, two Connecticut Commission on the Arts Playwriting Awards, a Massachusetts Artists Foundation Award, a Rockefeller Grant, a National Endowment for the Arts New American Works Grant, a Drama League Award, and nominations for a Pulitzer Prize and a Steinberg Award.

Adam Szymkowicz will be in Las Vegas, Nevada from March 14-15. Szymkowicz is a esteemed dramatist whose works have been produced throughout the world. His plays include Deflowering Waldo, Pretty Theft, Food For Fish, Hearts Like Fists, My Base and Scurvy Heart, Herbie, Incendiary, Clown Bar, Fat Cat Killers, The Why Overhead, Adventures of Super Margaret, Elsewhere, Where You Can't Follow, A Thing of Beauty, UBU, Mercy, Rare Birds, Violent Bones, Sarah Sarah Sarah, Good Morning Good Night, Colchester, Alcott, Such Small Hands, Marian Smouldering and Nerve. Szymkowicz is also a two-time Lecomte du Nouy Prize winner, and a current member of the Dramatists Guild and Writer's Guild of America.

Caridad Svich will be in Providence, Rhode Island, from February 22-24. Svich is an accomplished playwright who has written over forty full-length plays, with notable works including 12 Ophelias, Iphigenia Crash Land Falls on the Neon Shell That Was Once Her Heart, The Booth Variations, Alchemy of Desire/Dead-Man's Blues, Any Place But Here, Archipelago, The Way of Water and JARMAN (all this maddening beauty). She has received many accolades, such as an OBIE Award for Lifetime Achievement, an Edgerton Foundation New Play Award, American Theatre Critics Association Primus Prize, and two National Latino Playwriting Awards.

The Dramatists Guild Foundation will be presenting these Traveling Masters in partnership with Wilbury Theatre Group, Rhode Island School of Design, Majestic Repertory Theatre, University of Nevada Las Vegas, Las Vegas Writers Lounge, New Hampshire Theatre Project, Feminist Oasis, and more. By bringing Traveling Masters to three brand new states, DGF is working towards its goals of expanding the program's reach and supplementing arts education for students and adults who might otherwise have limited access. The program will help the people of Rhode Island, Nevada, and New Hampshire develop their talents and share the stories.
