Primal Forces Presents THE PINK UNICORN How on God's green earth can you be both a boy and a girl? Laura Turnbull stars as a widowed Texan housewife, Trisha Lee, whose relationship with her small community is tested after her daughter makes a startling confession. Primal Forces is proud to present The Pink Unicorn, directed by Genie Croft. This hilarious battle of the culture wars runs June 13 to July 8 at Empire Stage. Tickets $30 at www.primalforces.com.

"I was totally captivated by the script, and its truthfulness, humanity, humor, and transformative message," said Croft. "The importance of The Pink Unicorn is rooted in its insightful, clever writing and the exciting challenge of bringing Trish's deepest thoughts to life on stage, as she wrestles with the tension of her socially conservative background (including her views on religion and sexuality) and the profound love she has for her daughter. Trish's journey is laden with hilarious moments, and the fight to give her daughter human dignity, and the right to be her true self."

At once hilarious and heartfelt, The Pink Unicorn is an award-winning theatre piece that tells the story of Trisha Lee, a widow, living in a conservative Texas town, whose life is thrown into turmoil when her teenage daughter announces she is gender queer and starting a Gay/Straight Alliance at the local high school. When the school principal rejects the GSAs application for inclusion as a school club, Trisha must choose sides in her rapidly dividing town.

"As a mother, I feel very strongly about unconditional love for my children," said Turnbull. The idea of a parent turning their back on their child is something unimaginable to me. I think this mother struggles with comprehending who her daughter really is, but she knows that her love for her child outweighs what she'd always been taught or led to believe. Unfortunately, that's not always the choice a parent makes, and so I dedicate this show to all of those people whose parents couldn't find that love and accept them - unconditionally- for who they are."

Empire Stage is located at 1140 N. Flagler Drive, Fort Lauderdale 33304
