Theatre Memphis Opens New Season wirh NEWSIES The regional premiere of the Disney Broadway musical, Newsies, will open the 2018-19 season at Theatre Memphis on the Lohrey Stage. Running August 24 - September 16, 2018, the story is set in New York City in 1899 and follows Jack Kelly and his fellow orphans and runaways who distribute newspapers to the public to survive. When newspaper owners raise the price of distribution at the "newsies" expense, Jack leads his young army toward responsibility and fights for a cause to help them all reach the dream of a better life.

Co-directed and co-choreographed by Jordan Nichols and Travis Bradley, the cast is filled with local talent that have committed to months of rehearsing and performing. "We have assembled some of the brightest and most talented young performers in the tri-state area to bring this poignant and timely story to life," Nichols says, "...and the technical precision displayed by the dancers onstage is sure to impress audiences who have come to expect so much from shows at Theatre Memphis." Bradley adds, "Working with the dedicated cast and production team has been such a rewarding experience. We have encouraged everyone to go the extra mile and make this show, what is sure to be, a most dazzling and entertaining night of theatre!

Theatre Memphis Executive Producer Debbie Litch feels the same way about presenting productions that represent the community. "Artistic excellence is what we strive for and given the opportunity to produce a show like Newsies ... and it being a regional premiere ... we want to get it right. Jordan and Travis have created an amazing show."
