At 2 p.m. on June 9, Stuart will participate in a ribbon cutting ceremony for a new exhibit filled with artifacts from Stuart's personal collection that traces the country music roots of rock 'n' roll. The new "Hillbilly Rock" exhibit is part of the Elvis Presley's Memphis entertainment and exhibit complex.
Over the years, Marty Stuart's love of country music has found multiple avenues for expression. In addition to writing and recording such hits as "Hillbilly Rock," "Tempted," and "The Whiskey Ain't Workin'," Stuart has become one of country music's most noted historians. The "Hillbilly Rock" exhibit is the second collaborative exhibition between Stuart and Graceland.

Stuart credits producer Sam Phillips and the early artists of Sun Records in Memphis (Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis) with the musical revolution that came to be known as rock 'n' roll. "Sam was a musical maverick who saw beauty and sensed the raw power of blurring the lines of country, rhythm & blues, bluegrass, and gospel music. He was triumphant in bringing down the walls surrounding these musical cultures, opening windows to all musical possibilities, mining the authenticity that lay hidden in each individual artist and providing a setting in which freedom could flourish." Further, Stuart says, "Sam Phillips and his staff produced an onslaught of music of atomic proportions that inspires, educates, entertains and mesmerizes till this day."
