Review: LEND ME A TENOR at The Palace Theater

After a delicious meal at The Palace Theater, prepare to be transported to a different time and space

The time, 1937, the place, Cleveland Ohio, the place, a luxurious hotel suite.

The Cleveland Opera has fallen on hard times and the only person who can saver it is Tito Merelli, or El Stupendo as he is known. Tito (Magnificently portrayed by Jamie Michael Parnell) has been hired to perform as the lead I Giuseppe Verdi's opera, Otello. The issue initially is that Tito has failed to arrive at the allotted time, sending the General manager of the opera into a panic.

Henry Saunders (Wonderfully played by Trent Loggins) calls for his trusty assistant Max (The fantastic Maxton Smith) to discuss their options. Max is an operatic wannabe, who is the sometimes boyfriend to Henry's daughter Maggie (Brilliantly played by Kaitlyn Serketich). Max offers to step in for the virtuoso.

As luck would have it, Tito arrives with his beautiful, passionate wife Maria (perfectly played by Maria Reed) in time to save the day. This works out to everyone's favor as Henry was very unwilling to let Max perform. We soon find out that Maggie, along with the show's operas diva, Diana Divane (The amazing Elya Faye Bottiger) has some romantic interest in the Maestro.

As trouble and hilarity ensue, it may be up to Max to save the opera and his love for Maria.

The show is a raucous good time, with a fantastic ensemble including BROADWAY WORLD AWARD winning Josh Hayes. The second act moves with incredible speed through issues of mistaken identity, affairs (or are they?) and illegal activities.

One of the most popular and unique aspects of seeing a show at The Palace Theater, is after the bows, the audience has a chance to meet the cast in the lobby. They are happy to pose for photos, answer questions, and just be around to speak with the patrons. Meeting the cast is just one of the many things that The Palace Theater gets right.

. Lend Me A Tenor the Musical was first performed at the Utah Shakespearean Festival in 2007. It moved to London with a two-week out of town tryout at the Theatre Royal in 2010. It opened on London's West End at the Gielgud Theatre in 2011 and was nominated for a Laurence Olivier Award. The show has had numerous subsequent performances throughout Europe
