Review: HOLLY JOLLY CHRISTMAS at The Palace Theater

From the moment you set foot in the theater, you feel Christmas. The giant nut cracker that greets you as you walk through the foyer is an outright invitation to enter a new world, a happier time and a place of peace and joy.

The entire experience is downhome friendly, from the chef introducing the scrumptious meal, to the servers, making sure your evening is amazing, with genuine care. The food was tasty and filling, and the chef visited every table to ensure every guest had the finest dining experience.

The talent in this show is incredible! The choreography was tight and a delight to watch. The vocals were spot on and the arrangement of the musical score a great mix between traditional and newly fresh takes on the old classics.

The best part for me was the Nativity scene, where upon Joseph and Mary clad in traditional garb silently enter the stage to the hauntingly goose bump inducing, "Mary Did You Know' sung to perfection by Jamie Michael Parnell. After the arrival of the wise men, and an angel the piece wound down with a beautifully choregraphed "Hark the Harold Angels Sing" complete with American Sign Language.

Everyone else around me seemed to enjoy all parts equally. At times there was raucous laughter as Santa (Jeff March) and Mrs. Claus (Regina Harbour) engaged in banter. While admittedly, it was a bit hokey for this reviewer, everyone in the audience was engaged and having a great time, so much so that at times the family directly behind me sang along.

Not only was it all in all a great and professional performance, but it was also an amazingly communal experience.

Take the family, take the parents, this is a fantastic all-ages show. The show runs Nov 9th through Dec 29th, Wed, Thu,& Sun. 1 p.m. : Fri & Sat. 7 p.m..
