You may find yourself doing a rumba in the aisles when Asere! Havana Cuba All-Stars performs an eclectic program of songs and music celebrating the musical legacy of the Caribbean island.

Back by popular demand, Asere! The Havana Cuba All-Stars will fuel a joyous celebration of Cuban music and dance styles that will test your dancing shoes as they weave a musical tapestry of Latin, European and African roots with Haitian and Jamaican influences.

They will perform Friday, March 15 at 8 p.m. Tickets are available at the Overture Center Ticket Office (201 State Street), by phone (608.258.4141) or online (overture.org). Groups of 10+ may be eligible for discounted tickets; for information, please call 608.258.4159.

This high-energy group is comprised by some of Cuba's greatest musicians. With rhythms and melodies from the cha cha to the rumba, from "Son Cubano" style to the salsa, the All-Stars will showcase a wide variety of addictive beats. The group is inspired by and dedicated to promoting the entire landscape of Cuban music through a fresh, contemporary lens.

In the "Asere" - or "Friendship" - tour, the All-Stars will be backed by three of Cuba's finest dancing couples. With the greatest dancers and musicians of Cuba working in tandem, the American encore of the Havana Cuba All-Stars' tour will be a spirited spectacle of song and dance, exemplifying Cuba's greatest musical traditions.

Drawing their inspiration from traditional Cuban music, seven young musicians formed Asere in the 1990s to create roots music with a contemporary feel while respectfully maintaining the style and passion of the music of their forefathers. Retaining acoustic instruments, they wrote new songs and inventive arrangements, developing a sound for a new generation, and delivered it with an explosive punch. Their fresh energy, endearing personality and powerful performances soon attracted attention in France and the UK. From there Asere went on to perform all over the world, from Norway to Sri Lanka.

For this tour we are fortunate to feature special guests from the dance group Identidad. Created in 2012 by Barbarito Montagne in the town of Cienfuegos, Cuba, the company works with young dance graduates in styles that make up the Cuban identity from traditional to contemporary dance. Barbarito himself has over 35 years of experience working as a dancer, choreographer, teacher and director. He has represented the art of Cuban dance in Germany, Mexico, Haiti, Japan, Bulgaria and France.

Overture Center for the Arts in Madison, Wisconsin features seven state-of-the-art performance spaces and five galleries where national and international touring artists, ten resident companies, and hundreds of local artists engage nearly half a million people in educational and artistic experiences each year.
