Taketori, written by Toshiko Hirata, opens at the Setagaya Public Theatre October 5, 2018 and is set to close October 17, 2018.

Taketori tells the story of a bamboo cutter who finds an infant girl growing in a stalk of bamboo who grows into a beautiful women. Everyone who meets her is instantly enthralled yet when she disappears from the earth the question lies: What is the true identity of "Princess Kaguya"?

Taketori is part of Contemporary Noh Theatre Series which was launched in 2003 by the Setagaya Public Theatre's Artistic Director Mansai Nomura to share the wisdom and sophistication of Japanese classics with the modern audience. In this 9th installment of the series, director Shuji Onodera delves into Japan's oldest narrative, "The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter," and presents it as a new fairy tale.
