NO MAN'S LAND Comes To New National Theatre Tokyo Next Month The New National Theatre, Tokyo presents NO MAN'S LAND, running Nov. 8 to Nov. 25.

The second of the new season is "No Man's Land" by exemplary 20th-century playwright and Nobel laureate Harold Pinter. This work was first performed at the Royal National Theatre in London in 1975, directed by Sir Peter Hall. PINTER's works use sharply truncated words and portray the dangers of personal identity, the fraudulence of society and the instability of human relationships; sometimes taking its portrayals to the extreme with characters on the brink of a breakdown. Even now, in the 21st century, this words throw a dagger at your heart. In this work, changes in power balance, ambiguity in relationships and uncertain pasts emerge and disappear in a conversation that unfolds in a room, thus unveiling the world of PINTER, in which the uncertainty between truth and falsehood is cherished; leaving the question remaining as to whether the conversation holds the truth or is it a mere game they play.

JITSUNASHI Satoru makes his directorial debut at the New National Theatre this season, having worked on the script together with leading PINTER scholar KISHI Tetsuo, we expect a new portrayal of PINTER's world.
