When the original production of Do Patent Leather Shows Really Reflect Up opened in Chicago in 1979, the show kicked off a 4½-year run at the Forum Theater, the longest in the city's history. The show featured Megan Mullally, Anthony Crivello and Chloe Webb. "Shoes" broke house records during its two runs in Philadelphia. And now it's Jacksonville's turn as Do Patent Leather Shows Really Reflect Up opens at the iconic Alhambra Theatre & Dining on September 12 for a four-week run.

About Do Patent Leather Shoes Really Reflect Up?

The original coming of age musical involves the 1950's Catholic education of eight Chicago children, following them from the start of elementary school through the senior prom and beyond. Along the way it touches on such topics as first confessions, puppy love, patron saints, teacher's pets, sex education classes, and the importance of not wearing patent leather shoes as they could reflect up under the school uniform's plaid pleated skirts.

One of the central plot elements running through the musical is character Eddie Ryan's (Rodney Holmes) infatuation with Becky Bakowski (Annabelle Fox). Despite staying in the "friend zone," he later falls in love with Becky. Unfortunately, she has decided to become a nun. Many years later Eddie returns to his old elementary school to inquire about Becky only to find she has left the order and is teaching in a small school in Indiana. Comedy - and romance - ensue.

Executive Chef Dejuan Roy will be cooking up a culinary experience fitting of Jacksonville's iconic dinner theater, the longest-running such theater in America. First Course (choice of one): Acorn Squash Bisque or Spinach Salad wit red onion, cherry tomato, warm bacon dressing. Second Course (choice of one): Creamy Chicken Alfredo Fettuccine, fresh peas & tomatoes, Fried Pork Chops with yellow rice pilaf, Black Eyed Peas...

Third Course (choice of one) Peach Cobbler with vanilla bean ice cream or Triple Chocolate Cake.
