Review: THE SERVANT OF TWO MASTERS at Beit Lessin

"The Servant of Two Masters" is a comedy that was written in the 50s of the 17th century, if you didn't know that you would never discover that from watching this new "Beit Lessin" Theater production. The show starts with Smeraldina that address directly the audience and let us know that the 4th wall is missing in this show, it is well seen that she is going to company as through the show and develop the plot.

Yaniv Biton as Truffaldino makes this show as great as it is. Without him, I don't think this show could be complete. He is definitely making this role his own, he improvises in such a funny way, he uses his body, his face, his voice and every other thing he got to make us laugh. Truffaldino and Smeraldina are funny and stereotyped but doesn't cross the border to the bad side of that humor. They are hilarious, emotional, honest, and authentic.

The sound and lights in this show work well with the clean, nice (but a little bit too simple) set. The sound is well made and reminds me a little bit an old classic comedy. It emphasizes the jokes and makes simple movements like falling, hitting etc. really really funny. I wish the set was changing a little bit, it all looked the same for the whole show and that was a little bit boring.

This show is hilarious. I have not watched something so funny for a long time. I think that making an old text relevant is definitely an art, and here they did it amazing. The actors are amazing, they jokes are varied: physical, satire, word games etc. And even the improvise are relevant, up to date, funny and connected to the plot. I really enjoyed this show, and I think everybody will too.
