ULYSSES At The Abbey Theatre is Back By Popular Demand This Summer, the Abbey Theatre's production of Ulysses is back by popular demand following a sold out run in 2017.

Dermot Bolger's brilliantly adapted, vibrant version of James Joyce's classic runs for 6 weeks from 11 June - 21 July, with two performances taking place as part of Bloomsday Festival on 16 June.

Bloom's odyssey becomes a theatrical pandemonium of live music, puppets, dancing, clowning, bowler hats and kazoos. It's Ulysses as you've never imagined it before, a superbly theatrical homage to Joyce's chronicle of Dublin life and the greatest novel of all time. The auditorium will again be transformed, with 100 audience members seated in the middle of the action on stage.

'My ideal audience is people who always wanted to read the book but felt daunted. They may be surprised to find that it remains a book about themselves and people they know. They will not leave knowing everything about Joyce, no more than I'll ever comprehend the fullness of his vision. But I hope they are sufficiently engaged by the human drama; by Bloom's subtle triumphs; Molly's all too human contradictions and Stephen's isolation on the eve of departure, to again start to read this superb chronicle of our capital city: one of the greatest and truest novels of all time.' - Dermot Bolger

Created by Co-Director of the Abbey Theatre Graham McLaren (Jimmy's Hall, The Unmanageable Sisters), Ulysses is absurd, brilliant and full of fun. Graham's productions of European classics have been seen in London's West End, ancient Greek amphitheatres, black box studios and on the main stages of national theatres and major festivals across the world. All but one of the original cast return, with Stephen Jones (CLASS, Dublin Oldschool) now taking up the role of Blazes Boylan.

Theatre goers can expect a cracking good start to their night out in Dublin town which might inspire their own late night adventures in the capital city.

Booking is now open for all dates at abbeytheatre.ie.

The Abbey Theatre continue their popular First Free Previews initiative with Ulysses taking place on 11 June 2018. Ulysses marks the 11th in the First Free Previews series that has seen hundreds of people attending the special performances to date. Queues usually start to form at 4.30pm on the day of the performance. Doors open at 6.30pm with the performance starting at 7.30pm.
