THE LONESOME WEST Thrills Audiences Now in it's third week, Martin McDonagh's The Lonesome West is bringing large and appreciative audiences to the Everyman Theatre in Cork City. This blackest of black comedies, the third play in McDonagh's seminal work The Leenane Trilogy, is brilliantly realised in this production. The Everyman is maintaining its tradition of presenting top-quality theatre with this offering directed by it's Artistic Director, Julie Kelleher. It opened to huge critical acclaim in late July and continues until Saturday, 25th August.

The Lonesome West is undoubtedly a comic masterpiece. McDonagh's much loved characters, Coleman, played by Gus McDonagh and Valene played by John McCarthy, two brothers living alone in their father's house after his recent death, find it impossible to exist without regular and violent disputes over the most mundane matters. Only the local priest, Father Welsh/Walsh, played by Andrew Holden, is willing to try to reconcile the two before their squabbling leads to violent and bloody carnage. Girleen, brilliantly played by Amy McElhatton, is a mix of brazenness and vulnerability and the perfect foil to the outstanding performances by McDonagh, McCarthy and Holden.

Following the successes of Lovers, The Factory Girls, and Dancing at Lughnasa, this staging brings together the exciting creative team of Deirdre Dwyer, Set and Costume Designer, Brian Mitchell, Lighting Designer and Chris Schmidt Martin, Sound Designer.
