Staging and Choreo Tech 'Stage Write' Launches Universally Accessible Web System

The revolutionary technology Stage Write - which tracks the staging and choreography for Broadway's biggest shows, including Hamilton, Mean Girls, Frozen, Carousel, Hello Dolly! - announced today the launch of its new web system, Stage Write Anywhere, giving directors, choreographers, stage managers, swings, and dance captains a major upgrade to the technology tool already being used by over 50,000 artists worldwide.

Initially released in 2012 as an iPad App by Director/Choreographer Jeff Whiting, the system simplifies the process of tracking movement and traffic patterns (onstage and backstage) of the actors, props, and scenery in a simple at-a-glance format - allowing users to document the details of every moving element during the production. Notable new features include the ability to import a PDF of a script; insert lighting cues, sound cues, and blocking notes; and even draw freehand traffic patterns. In addition to giving existing users a free unlimited six-month subscription, the new subscription system also offers a greater variety of pricing tiers for users, starting at $1/month.

"The ability to collaborate with other users at the same time is a major improvement to the system," says creator Whiting. "This way everyone can be doing their work simultaneously and see it update in real time as the data syncs together."

"In the old days, I used to move pennies around the table to represent dancers," said Susan Stroman. "For me, it is very important not to waste the time of the actors. I want rehearsal to be about acting and exploration. Stage Write offers me the ability to quickly notate blocking, staging, and motivation, and allows me the freedom to spend more time being creative. Now those pennies can stay in the jar!"

In addition to being embraced by the Broadway community, Stage Write has been adopted by large entertainment companies, including Disney and Universal, and cruise lines Carnival, Disney, Holland America and Norwegian. The software is also serving an increasing number of Colleges and Universities as a resource to teach stage management.
