David Heron to Host Staged Reading of Christian Elder's INSEX at Billie Holiday Theatre

Award winning actor and playwright David Heron will host the staged reading of Christian Elder's new adult drama Insex at the Billie Holiday Theatre on Monday October 15 at 7 pm.

The reading will be directed by award winning actress and director Aixa Kendrick -last seen onstage in Layon Gray's Off Broadway production of Black Sparta- and will be the second offering of the 2018 -19 season of the Frank Silvera Writer's Workshop. The workshop runs from September through June with play readings once per month at the Billie.

Heron's appearance at the workshop comes on the heels of the highly successful reading of his own play Against His Will, which opened the new season of the FSWW playreading series last month. Directed by Heron himself and featuring a cast that included Tony Award nominee Pascale Armand, Against His Will went on to set a new record for audience attendance at the workshop.

Heron will serve as host for the evening as well as moderator for the post reading talkback with the playwright and cast.

Set in a major metropolitan city in America, Insex explores the mysterious world of BDSM- Bondage, Domination, Sadism and Masochism. It follows the story of a white female dominatrix named Stephanie, and how her intriguing encounters with two male clients of color leads to dramatic and unexpected consequences.

Heron was invited to host the reading in the absence of Frank Silvera Workshop Director Garland Thompson Jr who is currently working in Los Angeles.

Having read the script, he is excited at the prospect of seeing new playwright Christian Elder's work presented on stage in New York for the first time.

"I'm very happy to be associated with what I'm sure will be an entertaining, enlightening and most definitely controversial evening at the Billie with Insex," Heron says. " Audiences are going to be riveted as this play lifts the curtain on an aspect of modern day subculture that is as fascinating as it is divisive. As with Against His Will last month, I am very certain that the talkback afterwards is going to be a highlight of the evening. The characters and the content of the piece are thought provoking, to say the least. And we are delighted that our playwright Christian, who is west coast based, will be flying in to be part of the proceedings. He is an exciting new voice in the world of American theatre and I'm sure you'll be hearing a lot more about him after this."

Casting for the reading of Insex will be announced shortly.

The Billie Holiday Theatre is located at Restoration Plaza, 1368 Fulton Street, Brooklyn, New York, 11216.

Admission to the reading is Free.
