BWW Blog: Summer Plans

This has been quite the exciting last week! I finally have solidified all of my summer plans and couldn't be more excited. I move home in the beginning of May - only a little over 6 weeks away, which is coming up so quickly - and I luckily will be able to be living at home for almost the whole summer.

I first will be in the ensemble in the Detroit Actor's Theatre Company's production of In the Heights, performing in July in an amazing outdoor space in downtown Detroit. The space is in the major theatre district of Detroit, and I am so excited to be spending the summer downtown in such a cool city so near to home. I have loved In the Heights for so long, so I am so excited to get the opportunity to be in it. I have also worked with the director before, and cannot wait to see what she does with the show.

I also will be coming back to Bloomington at the end of July to spend the last few weeks of summer here! Every year at the end of IU's Summer Theatre season, a Premiere Musical performs during Welcome Week and is workshopped with a creative team from out of town at the beginning of August. This year, I am so fortunate to be an Assistant Director for The Stardust Road, a new musical based around the music of Hoagy Carmichael, who was a famous singer-songwriter from Bloomington. I am so excited to work on a new musical, working alongside a Broadway creative team. The director of the piece is Susan H. Schulman, most known for her directorial work on the original Broadway productions of The Secret Garden and Little Women, and the 1989 Broadway revival of Sweeney Todd. I cannot wait to learn so much from someone who is in the top of her field.

On top of these shows, I will be going on an amazing Alaskan cruise this summer with my whole family, which will be so much fun. Other than these two exciting projects being finalized, nothing too much else exciting is going on. City of Angels rehearsals are going smoothly, and we started rehearsing in our space this week, which has been great! With just two and a half weeks until opening, the show is really starting to come together.
