Make Your Mom Take You to to See DON QUIXOTE This Mother's Day

Outside of a Dairy Queen, the most welcome sight during a car trip across Texas is a horse and cattle farm. If you've never experienced the pure joy of your mother pointing out the window and exclaiming "Look at the horses!" with an excessive glee unbefitting an adult, tell your parents you won't be attending any Thanksgiving dinners until you get the good childhood you deserve and that taking you to see the majestic horsey in one of the Houston Ballet's DON QUIXOTE performances at Miller Outdoor will be the first step on the long road to reconciliation.

Last month, the Houston Ballet revived Ben Stevenson's DON QUIXOTE. And this month, as part of its community outreach, the company will present free performances of the production MAY 11, 2018 through 13, 2018 at Miller Outdoor Theatre. And in addition to a white stallion, the production features a grand windmill, gorgeous design elements and dancing that is as expressive as it is impressive. BroadwayWorld was fortunate enough to view the production in April at the Hobby Center.

The design elements shine in this production: the lighting, set, costumes , even makeup. Especially the makeup. Combined together, the designers make Don Quixote's fairy tale world seem real like reality.

The tale follows the elderly adventurer Don Quixote (Linnar Looris) and friend Sancho Panza (Christopher Gray). Mistaking the beautiful Kitri (Soo Youn Cho) for his ideal woman, the Guinevere to his Lancelot, Dulcinea, he sticks his foot in the middle of her nascent love affair with the charismatic Basilio (Jared Matthews). To make matters worse, Kitri's father, Lorenzo (Christopher Coomer), prefers his daughter marry a foppish nobleman Gamache (Oliver Halkowich).

At the Miller Outdoor Theatre, Linnar Looris will perform the part of Lorenzo, not Don Quixote; however, many other dancers reprise their roles including Mónica Gómez and Soo Youn Cho (Kitri/Dulcinea); and the performances will feature Christopher Coomer (Don Quixote), Connor Walsh (Basilio), and Jessica Collado.
