Ricordi Berlin Continues Composer Competition ricordilab

After the great success of the first edition, Ricordi Berlin decided to continue its program to collaborate with young composers. Ricordilab will provide the opportunity for emerging composers to participate in a three-year collaboration with the publishing house that will publish selected works, provide international promotion for the successful applicants and will also support the laureates with expertise in the music business. Ricordi Berlin is looking for composers from various musical backgrounds with promising and unique compositional voices to enrich its roster. Works for stage are highly welcome.

A New Group of associated partners, including Bamberg Symphony, Festival Eight Bridges | Music for Cologne, huddersfield contemporary music festival and International Music Festival Heidelberger Frühling, agreed to feature works of the laureates. If a laureate for stage works is selected, Sächsische Staatsoper Dresden offers a traineeship for several weeks in one of their productions and the option for a commission for a new work.

An advisory board of internationally renowned experts consisting of Hervé Boutry (former director of Ensemble intercontemporain), Enrique Mazzola (conductor), Younghi Pagh-Paan (composer), Costa Pilavachi (former Senior Vice-President of Universal Music Group), Ilona Schmiel (Executive and Artistic Director of the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich), and Melissa Smey (Executive Director of Miller Theatre, New York) will consult the publisher. The competition is supported by VAN, the international online magazine for classical music based in Berlin (www.van-magazine.com).

The application runs from 15 November 2018 to 15 January 2019, the laureates will be announced in September 2019. The competition is open to all composers born after 31 August 1979. Applicants need to submit three compositions: one work for ensemble, one work for large ensemble and one work for orchestra. For the first time, Ricordi Berlin also accepts applications for stage works. For more information please go to the website www.ricordi-lab.com.
