Musiktheater Bavaria Launches New Baroque Program In Germany

Musiktheater Bavaria, a well-established and recognized leader in European summer programs for classical and musical theater singers and instrumentalists, is pleased to announce the launching of its new training program serving advanced students interested in entering the field of early music.

Enhancing the mission of MTB, The International Baroque Academy (IBA) will provide a select group of singers and instrumentalists with mentorship from some of today's leading scholars and artists in the field of historically informed performance practice. This intensive program will culminate in performances of a wide range of 17th- and 18th-century music. Master Classes, Lessons, and Coachings offer in-depth study in: Voice, Continuo, Baroque Dance, Acting and Historical Gesture, Opera, Sacred Music, German, and Career Planning. Students will participate in the program's 2-week season, which runs from July 28 to August 10, 2019.

In its inaugural year, IBA will offer mentorship from Soprano Ellen Hargis (Newberry Consort and Bard College), Avi Stein (The Juilliard School), Sigrid T'Hooft (Corpo Barocco, Belgium), Charlotte Bell (Baroque Dance Specialist, Germany), Katja Rieck (Royal Conservatoire, Scotland), and other recognized clinicians in the field of early music. Performances will take place in sacred spaces and venues of historical significance and be accompanied by IBA resident faculty and members of Munich's premier baroque orchestra, Concerto München.

Dr. Isai Jess Muñoz has been named Executive Director of IBA. Dr. Muñoz brings to the Musiktheater Bavaria family an impressive resume of nearly 20 years of experience in the field of classical music both as a recognized performer and producer. Praised by the New York Times for "Crucially, deftly navigating the border of genuine emotion through his singing" tenor, Isai Jess Muñoz, enjoys a busy schedule of opera, concerts, and recitals, performing repertoire from the Renaissance and Baroque to the 21st Century. He has appeared with leading ensembles and companies around the world including the Israel Philharmonic, the New York Philharmonic, Mostly Mozart Festival at Lincoln Center, the Grammy-Winning Voices of Ascension, Verbier Music Festival of Switzerland, Alvin Ailey Dance Theater, and the New York City Opera, to name but a few companies.

Dr. Muñoz currently serves as Assistant Professor of Voice and Opera at the University of Delaware and as Chair of National Opera Association's Sacred in Opera Initiative- a division of the NOA that explores through research and performance, the interplay between music-drama and the ideologies of world religions. Jess Muñoz is also a proud member of the NATS National Committee on Advocacy- an initiative geared to support inclusion and diversity in the fields of singing.

Musiktheater Bavaria takes pride in seeing so many of its former students now working throughout America and Europe in opera houses, regional theaters, in concert performances and national tours. Many alums are also no passing on the gift of learning as educators at leading institutions across the world. Additionally, in recent years, MTB singers and pianists have gone on to win important competitions including the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. MTB is honored to have been part of their journey, providing tools to help students achieve success in a highly competitive field.

The International Baroque Academy plans to continue the same high standards that has made Musictheater Bavaria a leader in the training of emerging professional performing artists. Prospective students may apply at: www.InternationalBaroque.org
