Broward Center Welcomes Slow Burn Theatre's LEGALLY BLONDE This Month

Slow Burn Theatre Company and the Broward Center for the Performing Arts present the Tony Award-nominated musical Legally Blonde Thursday, December 13 - Sunday, December 30.

The musical, which received Tony Award nominations for Best Original Score (music and lyrics by Laurence O'Keefe and Nell Benjamin) and Best Book (Heather Hach), recounts the story of not-so-dumb-blonde sorority sister and Valley girl Elle Woods. Determined to get her ex-boyfriend back, she charms her way into Harvard Law School and, along the way, tackles stereotypes and scandal as she pursues her dreams in this action packed musical that explodes with memorable songs and dynamic dances.

The production has plenty of "legal" precedent to be a hit with audiences. First Legally Blonde was a funny romance by author Amanda Brown, which was followed by a movie version and a sequel starring Reese Witherspoon (with a third on the way in 2020). The musical adaptation made theater history when it was broadcast on television live from Broadway. Along the way, Legally Blonde created so much fun and fans it should be illegal.

Becca Andrews stars as Elle Woods with Landon Summers as Warner Huntington III, the object of her affections. Michael Focas as Emmett and Jeanine Gangloff as Paulette come into her orbit as does Professor Callahan, a legal shark professor played by Matthew Korinko.

They are joined in the cast by Kimmi Johnson, Leah Sessa, Clay Cartland, Nicole Kinzel, Meredith Pughe, Isabel Lopez, Lauren Tepper, Kristina Johnson and Michael Cartwright. A talented ensemble rounds out the cast: Sean William Davis, Chris Alvarez, Stephen Hedger, Sahid Pabon, Laura Titus, Jonathan Eisele, James Giordano, Christina Baroniel, Alexandra Van Hasselt, Jerel Brown, Laura Plyler, Clifford Spulock and Samantha Peoples.

Slow Burn Theatre Artist Director Patrick Fitzwater directs and choreographs the production which features lighting by Tom Shorrock, costumes by Rick Peña and scenery from Music Theatre of Wichita.

Music Director Paul Tine has put together a great group of musicians to play the pop-music score: Roy Fantel, Dave Wilkinson, Guillermo Gonzalez, Rick Kissinger, Paul Reekie and Jesus Mato.

Legally Blonde is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International. Performances are Thursday-Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. with a matinee performance on Wednesday, December 19 at 1 p.m.

Tickets are $47-$60. Ticketmaster is the only official ticketing service of the Broward Center, Parker Playhouse and affiliated venues.
