Review: WHO MAID WHO at Harwood Prairie Playhouse

Harwood Prairie Playhouse presents WHO MAID WHO?

This is my first time reviewing a production by Harwood Prairie Playhouse and I must say that I really enjoyed myself. This is the 2nd time this particular production has been put on, the first time being in 2009 which was the premier of the play. The play, written by David Lassig, who also stars as Chris, takes place at a lake cabin and involves 2 friends working together ( one of them unknowingly at first) to hide the others love affair. This is a hilarious story with nonstop laughter. Every performer was great and all fit the roles wonderfully. I should note that this is a sequel to the play Dirty Habits, but you do not have to have seen that first to enjoy this show.

David Lassig as Chris was my favorite character. He stole so many scenes with his impeccable comedic timing. I almost fell off my chair laughing at him more than once. The few times where he gets to try to explain what is going on are comedy gold.

Scott Awalt as Joe, the married man trying to hide his girlfriend from his wife, was great. His scenes with Chris were so good. His interactions with his wife Robin, played by Becky Haagenson, were funny and entertaining and the scenes with his mistress Marsha, played by Amber Dean, were also hilarious.

The story really gets interesting when Joe's parents show up. George, played by Jim Donat, has some very memorable scenes as a dirty old man with Chris and also Beth (Chris's Wife), played by Hannah Allen. Gladys, played by Dawn Thompson, gets to show off her comedic chops in a few great scenes with Chris. Finally we get to meet Roger, played by Justin Watson, as a local police officer that shows up to add in more insanity to an already crazy story. Of course the story would not be complete without a french maids costume (or two... or maybe three)

This is a wonderful comedy that I think most mature audiences (some adult language and references). Here are still a few chances to see this production and you can get more information here: http://prairieplayhouse.org/
