Review: THE LITTLE MERMAID at Horizon Middle School

Horizon Middle School brings the audience Under The Sea with The Little Mermaid

Attending a show at Horizon Middle School in Moorhead, MN is a unique experience. They are known for putting on full productions (instead of Jr or kids versions) of shows that rival many high Review: THE LITTLE MERMAID at Horizon Middle School school performances and this year was no different.

I say this with almost every show in this area, but the talent in this community is spectacular. Must be something in the water, or in this case "Under The Sea". With this show it is so hard to believe this is a middle school show, the talent of these kids at this young age is beyond impressive.Review: THE LITTLE MERMAID at Horizon Middle School

Right out of the gate we are treated to the amazing voice of Sophie Schulz as Ariel singing The World Above. This young lady definitely has a bright future and I can't wait to see her in many more shows.

On the 2nd song, Fathoms Above, I have to note Kolton Doucette as the ships Pilot. Middle school kids should not be able to sing that low.

Harrison Timm as Prince Eric is such a delight. Harrison has a great singing voice and his on stage chemistry with Sophie makes his casting perfect.

Review: THE LITTLE MERMAID at Horizon Middle School Charlie Maki as the powerful King Triton, my only complaint is that we didn't get to see more of him.

Sebastian, played by Martan Gregoire, steals the show every time he is on stage. His performance in Under The Sea was probably my favorite part of the show. I also have to give a nod to his Sidekick played by Leif Carlson. He was in almost every scene with Sebastian and just added even more talent and fun to the scenes.

Lydia Horan played the evil Ursula to perfection. She is fun to watch on stage and worked so well with Flotsam & jetsam played by Jeana Lee and Jordan Jensen.

Review: THE LITTLE MERMAID at Horizon Middle School I have to be sure I mention Tyler Clow as Grimsby, I found out this was his first ever show and I never would have guessed it. He held his own with all of these "veterans" and I hope he sticks with it.

I could probably go through and say something about every member of the cast, but I only get so much space for my reviews. This whole production was wonderful. The cast & crew did a great job and the set was beautiful.

If you ever get a chance to see a show at Horizon Middle school do yourself a favor and go, you will not be disappointed. Now I can't wait to see many of these kids I mentioned above next fall in Moorhead High Schools production of Newsies!
