Review: MAMMA MIA! at Fargo Davies High School Theatre

The music of Abba always seems keep coming back, and with the adaption of stage musicals and movies based on that music it is more popular than ever. Rebecca Saari and the Fargo Davies Theatre Department decided to bring that music to the stage this year. Director Saari even dedicated the show to her own mother JoNell.

With the great vocals that ABBA is known for this show is always a challenge, but luckily our community is blessed with some amazing singers and this production has some of them in the cast.

Josie Gompf as Sophie has an amazing voice and great stage presence. She really stood out on Have a Dream, Gimme, Gimme and Slipping Through My Fingers. Hopefully we will see her in a summer production in 2019.

Hannah Krier as Donna was a great choice. She played the mom very well and we got to hear her powerful voice throughout the show. She absolutely blew me away on The Winner Takes It All (and got the biggest cheers of the night on that song).

The 3 dads were perfectly cast with Logan West, Jason Diers and Wyatt Amundson playing Sam, Harry & Bill respectively. All 3 got their moments to shine. Logan West as Sam was great on SOS and Knowing Me, Knowing You. Jason Diers as Harry was superb on Our Last Summer and Wyatt Amundson as Bill was delightful on Take A Chance on Me (Amelia Adank as Rosie was fun on this one also).

One of my favorite characters was Seaver Klassen as Old Father Alexandrios. He hilarious stole most of the scenes he was in, even though he was hard to understand. He stage presence and mannerisms were perfect.
