Review: DANI GIRL at Wheelhouse Theatrical Productions At Theatre B

Dani Girl a Wheelhouse Theatrical Production

Dani Girl is the story of a 9 year old girl battling leukemia and how she uses her imagination to deal with it. Now if you are going to do a show with only 4 actors you might as well use 4 of the best from our area. Director Craig Ellingson definitely picked 4 rock stars for this production.

Angie Schulz absolutely shines as Dani and I believed pretty easily that she was only 9 years old. We are treated to Angie's beautiful voice right from the start and some of my favorites are The Game Of Life, My Hair, No Big Deal and Going to Heaven. Throughout the show Angie will bring you from laughter to tears and back to laughter again. Her "Conversation with God" scene towards the end was one of my favorite moments of the show.

Craig Ellingson as Raph really got to show his range while playing numerous characters within Dani's imagination. Some of his standout performances were on The Game of Life, Trivial Pursuit of Death, God is Dead and he was hilarious as Darth Cancer.

Kathy Hanson as Dani's Mother was amazing. Her scenes with Dani were very emotional and my only complaint was that we didn't get to hear her sing a few more solo's. She definitely stood out on Fairy Tail Endings and Sun Still Rose.

Daniel Damico as Marty was brilliant. His interactions with Dani were done so well and were just funny and emotional all the way through. As a self proclaimed nerd I loved his references to Star Wars, Star Trek and Indiana Jones. Daniel got to show off his wonderful voice many times and some of my favorites were Why I Like The Movies, No Big Deal, Going to Heaven and Side by Suicide.

I also have to mention the beautiful music that helped tell the story with Music Director Rachel Horan on Piano and Alyssa Miller on Cello.

I highly recommend this show and you still have one more weekend to see it. This is a very emotional show so you might want to bring tissues, if not there was a box sitting by the door.
