Review: BLOOD BROTHERS at Fargo South High

Blood Brothers at Fargo South High Theatre

For those unfamiliar with the story, as I was, Blood Brothers is the story of fraternal twins that are separated at birth and meet each other for the first time at age seven. The story spans over 20 years as we see the boys grow up with very different backgrounds.

There were some great standout performances and director Kevin Kennedy assembled a wonderful supporting cast.

Gillian Smith as Jennifer Lyons and Sam Warnsholz as Richard Lyons were both wonderful in their roles and I would have love to hear them on a few more solos. Gillian really stood out on My Child and Sam on Miss Jones.

Malcolm Strand as Sammy Johnstone was so much fun as the older brother, who obviously had some issues.

The 3 stars of the show absolutely shined on the stage. Janey Hudson as Mrs. Johnstone was perfect in the role. She has a beautifully unique voice that really makes her stand out. I loved her on Marilyn Monroe, Easy Terms and Bright New Day.

Yukon Maughan and Blaze Remmen as Eddie and Mickey stole the show. These two young man played a seven year old better than most age seven kids I know. The interactions between them as young children was absolutely hilarious and had me laughing out loud numerous times. As they grow through the show the two actors transitioned perfectly to the awkward teens and into the 20's. The two singing on Long Sunday Afternoon was very memorable.

The small nine member pit orchestra, directed by Sara Lichtblau, put the finishing touches on a beautiful and powerful story.

Congrats to Fargo South Theatre on a wonderful production.
