PREPARATION

Please bring picture and resume. Bring sheet music in the proper key, accompanist provided. Musical theatre music in the style of the show, no pop. No recorded music or a capella, please. Non-union please limit song to one minute.

Performances to take place at the Kavli Theatre, Bank of America Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, Thousand Oaks, CA. ALL All ethnicities encouraged to audition for all roles.

BREAKDOWN

ALL SHARKS, JETS, SHARK GIRLS AND JET GIRLS, AND ANITA NEED TO BE STRONG DANCERS/MOVERS.

MARIA- Legit soprano B3 to C6.To play early 20’s. The beautiful, younger sister of Bernardo who has recently arrived from Puerto Rico. She is excited and enthusiastic, yet obedient.

TONY-Tenor B2 to B4. to play early 20’s.The best friend of Riff and former Jet leader who has turned to an honest life. He is good-looking, self assured, and passionate. He used to be the toughest fighter in the gang.

ANITA- Mezzo- Strong belter with solid E5. to play early 20’s.Bernardo's intelligent, flashy and very sexy girlfriend.

RIFF- Tenor B2 to G4. to play early 20’s.The intelligent yet intense current leader of the Jets. Tony’s best friend.

BERNARDO- Baritone B2 to E4. to play early 20’s.Maria's older brother who is the leader of the Sharks. On the surface, he is a seemingly cool character. But inside, he is filled with passion and anger.

ANYBODYS- Vocal range open. A Tomboy who desperately wants to be a Jet.

ACTION- Baritone. C4 to F5. to play early 20’s.A Jet. The angriest member who acts first and thinks later.

A-RAB- Baritone. F4 to F5. to play early 20’s A Jet

BABY JOHN- Baritone F4 to F5 with falsetto. to play early 20’s. A Jet. The youngest member and very impressionable.

DIESEL- Baritone E4 to F5. to play early 20’s. The Jet who is most physically imposing.

GRAZIELLA- Vocal range open. Early 20’s Riff’s girl

VELMA- Vocal range open. Early 20’s. Action’s girlfriend

JET GIRLS- Minnie, Clarice. Vocal range open. Early 20’s. Girlfriends of the Jets

CHINO- Vocal range open. to play early 20’s. Maria's quiet, intense, and angry suitor that she eventually rejects for Tony.

THE SHARKS- Pepe, Indio, Luis, Anxious, Nibbles . Vocal range open. Early 20’s. The Puerto Rican gang filled with members who are bitter from the difficulties of the assimilation process.

CONSUELA- Mezzo C4 to F5. to play early 20’s. A Shark girl who wants to be American (changes hair color frequently)

SHARK GIRLS- Teresita, Francisca, Estela. Vocal ranges open. Various girlfriends of the Sharks.

DOC- Vocal range open. 40’s-60’s. The owner of the local drug store hangout who tries to implore the gangs to stop fighting.

DETECTIVE SCHRANK- Non-singing role. A ruthless, sarcastic plain clothes detective.

OFFICER KRUPKE- Non-singing role. 26-45. A large, goon-like police officer who is the butt of the Jets’ jokes.

GLAD HAND- Vocal role open. Nerdy, overly cheerful and ill-equipped social director at the school dance (“Mambo”). Speaking role. No dance background.’’

ROLES FOR CHILDREN:

Seeking kids Ages 6-14 who are strong dancer actors of various ethnicities to double for sharks and jets in the ballet. No taller than 4’11”
