LOVE ACTUALLY LIVE

MEN:

[BILLY MACK] 40 plus years old, an aging rock star past his prime, desperate for a late career hit with the dark horse of the holiday season, Christmas is All Around. Must have an authentic, rock ‘n’ roll voice, with the appropriate sound of a life of abuse. Must also have great comic sensibilities and be comfortable with near nudity. Light British Dialect. Also plays the President of the United States.

[DANIEL] 35-55 years old, a recent widower now responsible for his young step-son Sam. A cool dad type with a heavy heart and a soulful pop sound. Imagine Liam Neeson with a soaring pop tenor voice and high vocal range. Sings Wherever You Will Go with light Irish Dialect.

[PETER] 25-40 years old, Black British, a professional type newly married with his best friend Mark often at his side. Open hearted and caring, deeply in love with his new wife, Juliet. Must have a soulful voice powerful enough to match Otis Redding’s when he sings White Christmas with a strong British dialect.

[MARK] 25-35 years old, a young professional in arts management with brooding good looks and sad eyes. In love with his best friend’s new wife which weighs heavy on him. Must play guitar; soulful POP TENOR. Looking for a buttoned up version of Guy from Once. Sings an acoustic rock version of All You Need is Love and a soaring Here With Me.

[JAMIE] 25-40 years old, a stuttering, fumbling, hopeless romantic. Handsome and endearing, but somehow always manages to get his heart trampled over. Should have the effortless comic timing of a great rom-com, with a sweet and sincere pop/folk tenor voice and strong falsetto. Sings a tender ballad version of Maroon 5’s Sweetest Goodbye as well as a duet of Eva Cassidy’s Songbird with a light British dialect.

[HARRY] 45 plus years old, a higher up at a design firm with a big crush on his very inappropriate secretary. Alan Rickman type, with a sly sense of humor but who can also play the fool. A comic character actor with an interesting voice. Sings Texas’ I’ll See it Through and a comic arrangement of Too Lost in You with a full British dialect.

WOMEN:

[JULIET / MIA] 20-30 years old. Juliet is a newly married woman still on a shimmering high from the whirlwind of her wedding. A sincere, easy to laugh, friend to all. Mia is a classic femme fatale at a secretary’s desk. The two roles should be played like the angel & devil in pursuit of romance. Must have an excellent, versatile, pop/rock/soul vocal quality with a high range. Sings a sultry, Miami heat version of Santana’s Smooth and a charming, boy-meets-girl, R&B duet Take Me As I Am with a light British dialect.

[SARAH] 25-35 years old, a shy, soft spoken, office cubicle darling, hopelessly in love with her co-worker. American, she sings as the voice of Joni Mitchell, singing River and part of Both Sides Now, and should have the authentic, high folk sound to pull it off.

[KAREN] 45-55 years old, the perfectly English super mom, who juggles the needs of her active family with grace and good humor. Eager to rekindle a spark of romance with her husband, she is heartbroken to discover him fawning over his young secretary. A warm, maternal presence with an equally warm and inviting vocal quality when she sings. Sings Both Sides Now & Texas’ I’ll See It Through with wisdom and an open heart. Light British dialect.

[NATALIE] 20-35 years old, the newest member of the Prime Minister’s staff, a bubbly spirit of good fun and an easy smile, she combines proper manners with the salty language of a local pub. A down to earth daddy’s girl who can still fit right in with high society. Sings the barnburners of the night, including Trouble With Love & Jump For My Love with a voice that could rival Kelly Clarkson’s pop/soul belt and range.

[AURELIA] Portuguese, 20-35 years old. A shy, modest housekeeper with a hidden beauty and sharp wit. Must be comfortable learning lyrics in Portuguese, but does not need to be a native speaker. Looking for a voice that could bring an authentically Latin sound to songs like Eva Cassidy’s Songbird and Norah Jones’ Turn Me On.

CHILDREN:

[SAM] 8-12 years old, a cool kid with a lingering sadness from his mother’s death. Sings Puppy Love & All Alone on Christmas with a light British dialect. Must either already play drums well, or have the natural musical sensibility to learn in a few months’ time.

[JOANNA] 10-14 years old. A preternaturally gifted young singer who brings the house down at her school’s Christmas Play with Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas is You - the kind of voice that would win America’s Got Talent. American.
