Auditions will consist of one prepared contemporary or classical monologue not exceeding 3 minutes in length.

Synopsis:

How is it That We Live or Shakey Jake + Alice traces the arc of the lives of two lovers through the years, from the first kiss to the last goodbye and everything in between. On the road, in an indelible American landscape, Shakey Jake + Alice launch themselves on a poetic quest as they dance to the end of love. Longtime Undermain collaborator Len Jenkin explores the psyches of life-long partners to answer the question, “How is it that we live?”

Characters:

Shakey Jake – Male, any ethnicity, age range 30 – 55, he ages from scene to scene from young to late middle age.

Alice – Female, any ethnicity, age range 30 – 55, she ages from scene to scene from young to late middle age.

Cripple Clarence Nightingale – male, any ethnicity, age range 45-65.

Sweet Lucy – female, any ethnicity, age range 18 – 30.

Synopsis:

Ellida, a lighthouse-keeper's daughter, is trapped on an island in her marriage and longs for the sea. The conflict in the mermaid-like Ellida Wangel is between her duty to her devoted husband and her attraction to a mysterious, seagoing stranger from her past. Her duty to convention takes second place to an otherworldly awareness of more mystical bonds challenging her wedding vows.

Characters:

Ellida Wangel - Any ethnicity, age range 30 – 40, a woman dominated by the sea. She feels stifled in her new home and strangely drawn to a sailor who had known and loved her years earlier.

Dr. Wangel -Any ethnicity, age range 50 – 65, Ellida’s husband, a physician.

Boletta - Any ethnicity, age range 20 – 30 Dr. Wangel’s daughters by his first wife. Find her stepmother a difficult person with whom to make friends.

Hilda Wangel - Any ethnicity, age range 16 – 25, Dr. Wangel’s daughters by his first wife. Find her stepmother a difficult person with whom to make friends.

Arnholm – Any ethnicity, age range 35 to 50 Boletta’s former tutor and another early sweetheart of Ellida. He is a suitor to Boletta

The stranger – Any ethnicity, age range 30 – 45. A sailor who has a powerful psychological hold over Ellida. A fugitive from justice.

Lyngstrand - Any ethnicity, age range 25 – 35. a traveling sculptor who stops at the Wangels’ house. He is a suitor to Hilda.

Ballestead – Any ethnicity, age range 45 – 65. A painter, dance instructor, barber and autodidact. He is painting an ocean scape with a mermaid and offering guided tours to tourists.

Synopsis:

The final installment in this three-play cycle exploring the U.S./México drug wars. A young Méxican get caught up in the web of the drug trade between the two countries, changing their lives forever. But is their ordeal what it seems or a mirage of disinformation created by unseen forces? Somewhere between truth and illusion a mother from México searches for her missing daughter. The third part of Matthew Paul Olmos’s daring and poetic trilogy explores the human struggle of the US/México drug wars and the shadowy forces which create the market and distribution system shaping the world on both sides of the border.

Characters:

a Good Woman – Latina, Age range 45 – 65. Lila’s mother, a mature woman from Mexico.

the Sales Lady – Caucasian, age range – ageless 25 – 70. An American who entices and manipulates with marketing and propaganda.

Lila – Latina, age range 18 –a young woman from Mexico.

Boyfriend – Latino, age range 25 – 40. A young man from Mexico.
