BREAKDOWN

MIRIAM:
55 to 60 years old. Female. A Biblical scholar, she teaches Hebrew Bible studies at a major university, present-day. Any ethnicity.

CONNOR:
25 to 35 years old. Male. A boy growing up in a suburb of Detroit, starting in the 70’s. He ages during the play, from 10 years old to 38 years old. Energetic and very funny. Any ethnicity.

MAN 2:
20s. Plays a series of eager, funny, smart young men, including Connor’s friend Jim, as well as Shepherd, Laban, Theophilus, Jimmy, King James, various Scribes, and Charlie in the Writing Rooms. Any ethnicity.

MAN 3:
40 to 60 years old. Middle Eastern male. Arab-American. Charming, clever, and open-hearted. He plays Miriam’s lover Qasim, as well as Teacher, Mordechai, Simon, Peter, Luke, and JJ in the Writing Rooms.

WOMAN 2:
20 to 30 years old. East Asian female. Smart, vulnerable, edgy; plays a Korean journalist named Soo-Min Kim, as well as Tema, Betah, Veronica, Jerome, Cotton Mather and Phyllis in the Writing Rooms.
