SEEKING
Seeking triple threat performers for Musical Theatre West's first two shows of the 19-20 season. We are very interested in seeing people of color for all Principal & Chorus roles.
PREPARATION
If auditioning for Something Rotten!, please sing from the callback material available at musical.org under the Audition Sides tab. Please bring other audition material, as you may be asked to sing a different short selection. Please be prepared to attend a dance call the following day if asked (tap & musical theatre jazz). Something Rotten! callbacks will take place on Tuesday, July 16th.

SOMETHING ROTTEN!
Minstrel
Male, mid 20s to 40s. Seeking a charismatic actor with a thousand faces. The Minstrel will not only sing the opening number, but also play almost ALL of the side characters throughout the show, including SHYLOCK (an old Jewish moneylender), LORD CLAPHAM (a flamboyant theatre producer) and a handful of other small parts. (Baritone)
Nick Bottom
Male, mid 20s to late 30s. A struggling renaissance writer at the end of his rope. Nigel’s older brother. Incredibly jealous of the success of William Shakespeare and will do anything to beat him. Seeking a great comedic actor who sings, tap dance skills a plus. (Baritone)
Nigel Bottom
Male, mid 20s to 30s. Nick’s younger brother. A sweetly naive young writer and poet, perhaps a little awkward. He falls in love with Portia and ultimately finds confidence in himself through art and love. Seeking a great comedic actor who sings very well. (High baritone/tenor)
William Shakespeare
Male, mid 20s to 30s. A renaissance rock star. Think Mick Jagger or James Brown. Seeking a comedic actor with a killer pop/rock voice, tap dance skills a plus. (Rock tenor)
Thomas Nostradamus
Male, 40s to 60s. A soothsayer who almost sees the future correctly. A bit loony. He predicts that Nick and Nigel will write a musical. Seeking a comedic actor who sings and moves very well. (Baritone)
Brother Jeremiah
Male, 40s to 50s. Portia’s father. A Puritan with deeply repressed homoerotic tendencies. He despises playwrights,poets and all things ungodly. Seeking a great comedic actor who sings.
Bea
Female, mid 20s to 30’s. Nick’s wife and “Right Hand Man”. She loves and supports him despite his questionable decision making and lack of success. Bea resorts to dressing up like a man to make ends meet and to prove to Nick she can be an actor. Seeking a comedic actress who sings very well. (Belter)
Portia
20’s-30’s Female. An adorably quirky Puritan girl whom Nigel meets on the street. They fall madly in love with each other over their mutual love for Shakespeare and poetry. Seeking a great comedic actress who sings very well. (Youthful soprano with a strong mix)
Ensemble
Various ages / ethnicities. Seeking traditional dancers and quirky character types who are strong singers and dancers (must tap).
HOLIDAY INN
Jim Hardy
30’s, lyric baritone. Must be an excellent comic actor with a great voice. Handsome, kind, sincere, honest, and good natured. A performer and singer-songwriter eager to leave showbiz behind for a simpler life on a farm in Connecticut.
Ted Hanover
30’s, lyric baritone. Jim’s best friend & performing partner; a charming ladies’ man looking for his big break. Must be an extremely strong dancer (in the style of Fred Astaire or Gene Kelly); an excellent comic actor/dancer/singer; must tap extremely well.
Lila Dixon
30’s, high belt. A determined performer with a love for the spotlight and Jim’s mismatched fiancée; an excellent comic actor; must be an extremely strong dancer/singer; must tap.
Danny
30’s-50’s. The energetic and sarcastic manager for the musical act of Hardy, Hanover, and Dixon. Will stop at nothing to make his clients stars.
Charlie Winslow
To play 9-12 years old. Precocious, straight forward and practical, but oddly charming; not one to mince words; one of Linda’s students who works part time as a messenger for the bank; seeking a strong actor/singer; changed or unchanged voice.
Linda Mason
30’s, belt/mix. A school teacher with hidden talents. At first she is tough and distant, unwilling to fall for Jim’s charms; but she is ultimately won over by his kindness, humor and their mutual love of music; a lovely, charming and funny girl; must sing and dance extremely well
Louise
40’s-50’s, belt. The local “fix-it” woman; tough, no nonsense and extremely perceptive.
Ensemble
20’s-50’s. Announcer, Nightly Dancers, Radio Chorus, Radio Team, Danny’s Mother (V.O.), Film Crew, Midville townspeople, & Holiday Inn guests. Strong singers & dancers, must tap.
