BREAKDOWN

Two actors play all the townspeople of Popcorn Falls, a small town somewhere in upstate New York. Both actors must be superb technicians who can create many different characters. They must be able to interact like an expert vaudeville team – completely seamless with no make up or costume changes. The show is not ‘camp’ but the character’s eccentricities and passion can make them feel over the top.

Both roles have been CAST. Seeking for possible future replacements only.

SEEKING:

ACTOR 1:

Plays multiple characters that are male, any ethnicity. Mid 30s – early 50s.

Mostly plays MR. TRUNDLE – A sincere man with a big heart. The new mayor of Popcorn Falls. Recently divorced and recovered alcoholic. Thought he could hide out in a tiny little town to pull his life back together, but instead is forced to confront his inner demons.

ACTOR 1 also plays: HANS, a German foreign exchange student who now works at the local funeral parlor and MR. UPMALL, an octogenarian who has always dreamed of performing onstage.

The following ROLE IS CAST

ACTOR 2

ROLE CAST. Plays multiple characters that are male, any ethnicity. Mid 30s – early 50s.

Mostly plays JOE, the town custodial engineer. Joe is nervous because his wife is pregnant with their third set of twins and their town is about to go bankrupt.

ACTOR 2 plays many characters including: AUSTIN, the not-very-bright-but-eager-to-please sheriff of Popcorn Falls. He would like everyone to think he’s smarter and more important than he actually is. MS. PARKER, the ‘very theatrical’ town librarian. She speaks with a mid-Atlantic accent and acts as if she’s about to step into the role of Amanda Wingfield. MRS. STEPP, the oversexed, hardboiled, middle school teacher who is always out on the prowl. FLOYD, the owner of the local lumberyard who lost half his arm in a freak accident involving a telephone pole and a Mexican stripper. BECKY, a very sweet, lost soul, who just moved back to Popcorn Falls. She was once in love with Joe.
