BREAKDOWN

All actors play multiple roles within the production.

OTHELLO: 20s - 40s man. African American, African, Carribean, Afro-Latino. Othello is a confident, powerful soldier and general. A man that worked his way up through the ranks through discipline and force of will, he is now a force of nature both feared and respected. He has a tough exterior, a stoic front that binds in the intense passions that roil tough exterior with a vulnerable interior, prone to extremes of passion both tender and violent.

IAGO: 20s - 40s man. All Ethnicities. Iago is tough non-comissioned officer, the backbone of the military. Intellignt but lacking education, he is charmig and jovial, inherently trustworthy to those around him as he feels like the salt of the earth. Hidden within that mask is a clownish master of ceremonies who revels in the obscene and profane as he sadistically plots the destruction of those that stand above him.

DESDEMONA + Others: 20s - 40s woman. All Ethnicities. A strong, opinionated woman who chooses love in defiance of all obstacles: separation of age and race, disapproval of her father, and even encroaching war. She is sweet, loving, flirtatious but beneath that she pursues what she wants with passion and wit that stands beyond her youth and inexperience. Looking for an actor with both experience with Shakespeare and a strong singer comfortable singing a capella.

EMILIA + Others: 20s - 40s woman. All ethnicties. Emilia is Iago's wife and Desdemona's confidante. She is working class: practical, plain spoken, bold, and yet so deeply in love with Iago that she is willing to bend her ethics and morals to make him happy. She is the heart of the household and the quiet support for everyone in it. Looking for an actor with both experience with Shakespeare and a strong singer comfortable singing a capella.

CASSIO + Others: 20s to 40s flexible gender. All Ethnicities. Othello's lieutenenant and friend, Cassio is a career solider from the upper class: well educated, well spoken, and rising quickly through the ranks. He dreams of honor and holds his reputation above everything else. He is earnest and honest, and yet beneath the façade of handsome young gentleman he has a problem with alcohol and a violent temper when provoked. Looking for an actor with both experience with Shakespeare and a strong singer comfortable singing a capella.
