Music by David Schmoll

Lyrics by Amber Ruffin

Directed by Amber Ruffin

First Rehearsal: July 16, 2024

Performance: July 21, 2024, 1pm

SYNOPSIS

You’ve heard the myth and legend, but do you know the man? BIGFOOT is a hilarious musical about a small town whose horrible mayor has them convinced their problems are all the fault of Bigfoot and not his inept leadership. With book and lyrics by New York Times bestseller and Tony Award, WGA,

and Emmy nominated writer Amber Ruffin (The Wiz, Some Like It Hot) and Kevin Sciretta (iO Chicago) and music by David Schmoll (The Second City), Bigfoot is the next gut-bustin’, laugh-a minute New York musical!

ROLES

BIGFOOT, yes, that Bigfoot, this is his origin story. A little naive, and a lot optimistic. FRANCINE, Bigfoot’s Mom, a “pinata of sicknesses”, loves her giant son

DOCTOR, a kind man who cares for the people of Mud Dirt and is the only person NOT covered in mud or dirt.

MAYOR, the mayor of Mud Dirt, spends a lot of time drunk and in the local “gentleman’s club.”

JOANNE, the local conspiracy theorist who might just be the only person in town NOT afraid of Bigfoot. Also plays TOWNIE.

GAME NIGHT

Co-Created and Written by Shanessa Sweeney

Composed by Bongi Duma

Co-Created and Choreographed by Ray Mercer

First Rehearsal: July 16, 2024

Performances: July 26-27, 2024

SYNOPSIS:

Game Night is an exhilarating story of seven friends coming together for their monthly gathering of good times, jokes and most importantly, games. Told through dance and spoken word, the seven friends find out things about each other they never knew, some of which challenge the very core of their bond and some that will change the course of the trajectory of the friend group. Game Night showcases the beauty and complexities of American experiences through the lens of Black American culture and unabashedly highlights the challenges of those experiences. Co-created by choreographer Ray Mercer and actress Shanessa Sweeney, Game Night is a love letter to the Culture.

ROLES

ZORA. 31, biochemist, Brooklyn-born currently living in Chicago. Type A personality and is not overly emotional. She can seem curt at times because of her straight-forward way of thinking. Black. (This performer needs to be a dancer.)

MYLES, 31, Married to Zora. He teaches 5th and 6th grade math at an inner city middle school in Chicago and is an after-school reading coach part-time. Myles is very nurturing and sometimes overly emotional. Black. (This performer needs to be a dancer.)

MALIK, 32, A successful realtor Chicago, single dad with sole custody of his son. He is practical, protective and determined. He tries his hardest to be fair and just. He is a devoted friend and tries to be the mediator in difficult times. He never asks for help, but he is in desperate need of some moral support because he feels like he is going to crumble at any given moment. Black. (This performer needs to be a dancer.)

GREGORY, 31, a college basketball coach and recruiter. As a young man, Dunk knew he was attracted to men, but because of societal expectations and the fact that he wasn’t a “typical gay” he was in the closet for many years. Bit of a hot-head sometimes. Very competitive and oftentimes aggressive but not in a bad way. He is not flamboyant at all. There is NO effeminate quality to him, therefore making it hard to categorize his sexuality. Black. (This performer needs to be a dancer.)

KAMAL, 31, Gregory’s partner, works as counselor/therapist with a community medical facility in the HIV/AIDS department. Kamal is pragmatic, likes to weigh all the possibilities first and then make the best decision for the situation. He is not flamboyant. There is nothing effeminate about him, nor is there anything that reads overtly masculine either. He is just himself. Black. (This performer needs to be a dancer.)

HARLEM, 31, her mother is 2nd generation Guyanese-American and her father is Jamaican/Senegalese. Has her own fashion boutique and designs her own brand and is extremely successful. Harlem is used to fighting, so she can often be really sensitive to certain topics and come out with guns a-blazing. She is a great defender, for herself, for the people she loves and the causes she’s passionate about. She is a very honest, shoot-from-the-hip communicator and sometimes the way she communicates can come across harsh. Black. (This performer needs to be a dancer.)

ANIKA, 31, Literacy Director for a Chicago school district. She was often lauded for her beauty and her fair complexion in a family of caramel and often uses her light skin privilege as leverage to move things her way. She is a very sweet person but can sometimes come across as “entitled”. She is a southern bell with a lot of bite in her when things don’t go her way. Anika is a hustler and can turn on the sweet talk when need be. She has a calculating mindset and is very opportunistic, however she is not one to step on her loved ones to get what she wants. She is a supportive friend and is very loyal. Black. (This performer needs to be a dancer.)

A note on gender / race in casting:

The identities and embodied realities of the actors can and should deepen how we read the character dynamics in the story, and we want to be inclusive in our overall approach to representation across race/ethnicity, gender, body type, and ability. Some characters are written on the binary (using he/him or she/her pronouns), but gender non-conforming, genderqueer, transgender, and non-binary actors will be encouraged and embraced as they submit for the roles they most identify with.
