BREAKDOWN

SYNOPSIS/INFO

Two fun things about playing a game –
1. You get to play.
2. You don’t know how it’s going to end, because the tables can turn at any time.

So here is MONOPOLY, a musical based loosely on the world’s most famous game – and we want the audience experience to be “you get to play and you don’t know how it’s gonna end, ‘cuz the tables can turn at any time.”

Now this may sound like a thriller, a whodunit mystery more than a musical comedy. But MONOPOLY isn’t a whodunit – it’s more of a what-the-fuck – in the style of the screwball comedies of the 30s, but fresh, and for our world now. It’s spanking new in sensibility and tone – and mostly, the audience will have fun playing along.

You can’t describe it, because you’d have to use words like zany. Awful adjectives don’t do the job, and outlining the plot gives away the story, which we don’t want to do. Suffice it to say, it’s a story about a powerful woman (!!) who beats the house back in Prohibition Era Atlantic City. And beats it good.

Oh, btw: the game of our show is built around two central themes:

The first is a riddle:

A police officer is walking outside of a diner. He hears somebody yell inside the diner No, John not the gun!! followed by a gunshot. The officer immediately runs inside and finds a milkman, a doctor, a lawyer – and the dead body. The cop immediately arrests the milkman.

How did the officer know the milkman man did it?
(The answer, if you don’t already know it, will reveal itself in the climax of our show.)
The second is a moral conundrum:
You’re out in a big boat, and you see two men. One of them is in a rowboat and he’s tired of rowing and wants a free ride. The other one is drowning.

You can only help one of these guys. So who would you rescue? The one who wants a free ride? Or the one who’s drowning?

Any ten-year-old child knows the answer to that.

Fun, big starry performances. Great songs. And a Boardwalk. What else do you need to know?
