BREAKDOWN

Referred to by some as the “godmother of rock ‘n’ roll,” Sister Rosetta Tharpe influenced artists like Elvis Presley and Ray Charles with her fierce guitar playing and unique style of gospel. “Marie and Rosetta” features electrifying music and brings us to Tharpe’s first rehearsal with young protégée Marie Knight before they set out to become one of the great duos in music history.

Casting 2 Women.

Sister Rosetta Tharpe: Female, 30-54. Vivacious with an irrepressible spirit. A mean guitar player with a bluesy/gospel voice. Plays spirituals that swing. Must play guitar (acoustic and electric) proficiently and have a large voice. Principal role. African-American.

Marie Knight: Female, 20-24. In her early 20s, but looks younger. A more traditional alto gospel singer who plays staid piano. One of the most famous in rock and roll history. Must have a gospel voice and play piano proficiently. Principal role. African-American.
