BREAKDOWN
Seeking MALE AND FEMALE singer/ dancers - strong classic rock, pop or soul singers. Must be excellent dancers as well. Character ages are 20's/30's. Performers of all ethnic and racial backgrounds are encouraged to apply. All singers will need to dance. The choreography is extremely rhythmic, energetic and requires physical stamina. Ensemble members must be comfortable being able to sing well and engage in intense aerobic movement at the same time. Portions of the show involve lifts and partnering, jumping and kneeling. A dance background in any of the following styles is helpful: modern, contemporary, jazz, hip-hop, African, musical theater. Artists should be very comfortable with their bodies; men appear shirtless at times and some women appear with bare midriffs. Ensemble members will play the following roles:
[HEROD]
Male, high baritone; 30 -50s (B3 – G5) Featured ensemble role. The former Superstar, now gone to seed. Cynical, comedic, cruel: a creature. Candidates are encouraged to bring in their own individual performance. Director will shape concept around the right artist.
[SIMON]
Male. 20s- 40s. Tenor/high baritone (D3-Bb4(+)) with authentic northern soul/church/RnB voice to escalate the 1st act into a musical frenzy. Featured Ensemble role. Fanatic follower of Jesus and his underground movement. Instigator, outlaw, protestor.
[PETER]
Male folk-rock baritone, 20s- 30s. (D3-G4) Featured Ensemble role. Heartbreaking voice with a little edge. James Taylor/Rod Stewart.
Guitar skills essential. Mild-mannered follower, scared believer..
Members of the Ensemble may also cover select principal roles.
The Production brings the focus back to the show’s origins as a rock concept album, emphasizing a rock concert aesthetic rather than musical theater.
