BREAKDOWN
SEEKING
Mama Rose (ages 35-50) The ultimate stage mother. She is loud, brash, pushy and single-minded but at times can be doting and charming. Minimal dance but must move well. Comic timing a must. Strong Mezzo/Alto with good low notes and belt.
Louise/Gypsy Rose Lee (18-25) Louise as a teenager who grows up to be Gypsy Rose Lee. Pushed aside by Madam Rose in favor of June until she becomes her mother’s new pet project. Should be able to move well. Strong actress. Mezzo soprano.
Dainty June (16-24) Baby June as a teenager. The older she gets, the less she enjoys being her mother’s trained monkey. Strong Alto. Strong dancing skills, taps. the ability to do splits and twirl a baton a plus.
Herbie (45-50’s) Agent for Rose’s children and possible husband number 4 for Rose. He has a heart of gold but also has the power to defend the people he Loves. Minimal dance. A Baritone. Strong actor.
Tulsa / Ensemble (18-24) Boy-next-door type. Strives to break out of the troupe with an act of his own. Strong dancer. Taps. Good singer, charming. High baritone.
Yonkers / Ensemble (18-24) Strong singer / dancer / actor.
Angie / Ensemble (18-24) Strong singer / dancer / actor.
Pop / Goldstone / Cigar (50s) Rose’s dad / Booking agent for the Orpheum / Owner of a burlesque theater. Strong character actor. Does not need to sing.
Uncle Jocko / Etc. (30’s-50s) Owner of a children’s talent show / multiple other roles. Strong character actor. Does not need to sing.
Electra (20s-40s) A stripper just past her prime. Mezzo/Belt. Strong movement/dance. Ditzy and sweet. Strong actress.
Tessie Tura (30s+) A stripper just past her prime. Mezzo/Belt. Strong movement/dance. Ballet training helpful. A coarse broad who’s been around the block. Very funny.
Mazeppa (30s+) A stripper just past her prime. Alto/Belt. Strong movement/dance. Powerful character. Physically intimidating. Trumpet skills a plus.
Agnes / Ensemble (20-30) Should look young. One of the Hollywood Blonds. Strong comic actress. Good singing skills.
Marjorie Mae / Ens (20-30) Should look young. One of the Hollywood Blonds. Strong dancer. Good singing skills.
Geraldine / Ensemble (20-30) Should look young. One of the Hollywood Blonds. Strong dancer. Good singing skills.
