BREAKDOWN

Roxie Hart:
(Female. Vocal Part: Mezzo. Age Range 25-30) As pretty as she is self centered, Roxie Harts unrelenting search for fame forms the spine of Chicago. Her character embodies the corruption that fame can bestow upon a person. Very strong Fosse Dancer.

Velma Kelly
(African American Female. Vocal Part: Alto. Age Range 25-40) Tough, sexy and sarcastic, Velma Kelly is a vaudeville performer who resides in Cook County Jail after she murdered her cheating husband and sister. Used to being the “main attraction”, Velma in the style of Fosse, fiercely competes with up and coming rival Roxie for the attention of the press and to preserve her celebrity status.

Billy Flynn
(Male. Vocal Part: Baritone. Age Range: 35-50) A Lawyer who is handsome, suave, educated and very manipulative, Billy Flynn makes celebrities out of his clients in order to gain sympathy from the media and sway public opinion

Amos Hart
(Male. Vocal Part: Baritone. Age Range: 30-50) An auto mechanic, Amos is a good natured man who is a victim of his own innocence. He is Roxies husband and the only character in the show who’s motives are pure of heart and never selfish.

Matron Mama Morton
(Female. Vocal Part: Alto. Age Range: 30-50) Warden of Cook County Jail. Tough and sassy “reciprocity “ is her middle name

Mary Sunshine
(Male or Female. Vocal Part: Soprano. Age Range: 25-55) A sappy tabloid columnist who believes no matter what horrible atrocities a person commits there is good in them. If cast as a male it will be done in drag

Ensemble
(Vocal Part: varies. Age Range: 18-45) Male and female. Strong Fosse Dancers who sing well and are physically fit. Also plays chorus/specialty roles including the 6 Merry Murderesses ; Liz, Annie, June,Hunyak, Mona, Go to Hell Kitty, Fred Casely, Judge, etc.
