BREAKDOWN
ANNA KARENINA
Female, 30’s, Caucasian, strikingly beautiful with a deep well of emotional reserves, Anna operates at the highest level of Russian society. She is in a loveless marriage, but her moral compass makes it extraordinarily difficult to step out of that when love calls.
DOLLY
Female, Late 20’s - early 30’s, Caucasian, born into a prominent Russian family, but married a man who is more charming than faithful. She struggles with jealousy and insecurity; but is a wise friend to Anna.
LEVIN
Male, 30’s or 40’s, Caucasian. Born into enormous privilege and wealth, Levin feels the inequities of life deeply. Shy by nature, he is awkward in society and is passionate about reforms for the working class. He is also a philosopher and reformer at heart who thinks deeply about the big questions. Earthy.
VRONSKY
Male, Late 30’s - 40’s, Caucasian. Strikingly handsome and charming military officer and aristocrat. Life has come easily for Vronsky, and there is a restlessness within which aches for some larger purpose. Women have come easily to him, but there is a deeper connection with Anna than he’s experienced before.
KITTY
Female, 18 to 22, Caucasian. Born into the aristocratic Scherbatsky family, Kitty is lovely and charming and torn between the dashing Vronsky, and the shy Levin. As she matures, a sense of strength and leadership emerges.
KARENIN
Male, 50’s - early 60’s, Caucasian. Anna’s husband. A successful bureaucrat at the highest levels of political power in St. Petersburg, Karenin married Anna when she was a young woman. He is extremely invested in how their marriage portrays him publicly and can come off as cold, even dangerous at times. But he is as devoted to her as he knows how to be.
